In this video we ran side by side comparisons of the Stock, Burger Motorsports and aFe Power Stage 2 Intakes using BimmerLink and Dragy Performance Meter. The aFe Power Intake did perform better but is it worth $500? What would the stock intake do if we put a K&N filter in it? Could it perform just as good as the aFe?
Dragy Report:
At the top of dragy performance results you will see the DA numbers. This number can impact your timing significantly so figured I would detail this a little more. DA (Density altitude), is basically a means for describing how the weather conditions are going to effect our engines performance. Look at it this way, if you enclose a 1 foot glass cube at sea level, in that cubic foot volume of air there is going to be so much oxygen. If you do the same thing on the top of Mount Everest there will be less oxygen in the air. Why? Air has 21% oxygen. The air on Mount Everest is much less dense, so there is less molecules of oxygen in that cubic foot volume of air. What effects density altitude? Barometric pressure: Think of the atmosphere as a land mass; some places it is high, some places it is low. If you take your glass square and stretch it to the top of the atmosphere, if the atmosphere is significantly higher, there are more gas molecules pressing down, so the pressure is higher and the density is higher. If you go up in altitude, the column of air above you is decreased in height, so your actual barometric pressure measured right where you are at is less. Temperature: As temp goes up the molecules get more active, and the gases expand, so less oxygen molecules. Lower the temp the better. Humidity: Water is a contaminant for drag testing and displaces potential air molecules. The lower the DA the better!

Dropped the K&N panel and mine and never looked back. The intakes and charge pipes on the BMW X3 M40i B58 engine are already pretty much maxed out. Not into hot air.

So basically kn n drop in filter in the BMW stock airbox. Should be the cheapest and better than stock numbers and keep that temp down

Ahhh Last video I was questioning the boost PSI when you said it was around 30. I get it now. Your gauge is showing absolute pressure. The atmospheric pressure is around 15 and the actual turbo is creating 15 added psi for a total of 30 psi. You’ll find that different apps and logs will show things a bit different and this is one of them. Our car with stock turbos can safely reach around 20 psi and Bootmod3 for example on stage 2 gets the target for 17.2. Even at a target like this I’ll see a peak of around 21.3ish

I have a K&N intake if you want it. Used it on my X3 35i, but that car is gone. Sounds great, not great power. Major heat soak.

Hello Burger Motorsports, i liked that, u sounded honest, and i`ve heard the same results before, i`m putting my oem back in to check the feel it feel better than the afe takeda momentum, afe felt better top end, but weak out of the hole. thank you.
