OMG when I saw you eat the sandwich I thought your reaction was fake, but I must say I made a BLT last night and I had the exact same reaction. Thank you so much for posting this recipe.

Hello Miyoko, I've only just discovered your channel and I love your recipes and your excitement about your food. I've just made your tofu 'bacon' and its a revelation!!! I've been a veggie for over 32yrs and and this is the best 'bacon' I've tasted and I made it! No egg or other man-made additives... fab. I don't have any liquid smoke so I used a shake of smoked paprika instead and it worked a treat. Thanks Miyoko!

Adding either smoked or mild paprika to the bacon seasoning will give it a redder colour too :D

You're welcome! Liquid smoke is a condiment that is all natural and sold in the condiment section near ketchup, mustard, etc.

I usually bake at 375 degrees for about 15 - 20 minutes. You can also bake them for 30 minutes at about 200 - 250 degrees, which dries them out more. I just can't wait that long!

@Azihayya9 жыл бұрын
Hey Miyoko, I think I've improved upon your bacon recipe- but there's one more thing that I think that it needs and I don't know what it is. I ended up making the bacon tofu just like yours, but when I baked it on a pizza it came out with a really brown crust. Baking the bacon must definitely be an elemental aspect of imitating bacon, but I think that another ingredient besides tofu could provide the recipe with the flavor that it really needs to taste like bacon- hopefully whatever it is, that it has the same wonderful qualities that tofu does when it's fried and baked.
@marybernard22747 жыл бұрын
Azihayya That ingredient you are missing is maple syrup. Smoked bacon has a degree of sweetness to it. Its often smoked with a Brown sugar rub. That might be what you miss. Just add a half to a teaspoon.😃

@morgained411 жыл бұрын
I agree with you but, to be fair, the majority of plants cultivated are done so to feed livestock. While vegans are destroying plants in order to survive, over-all vegans are harming less plants than carnists. A vegan diet uses less farmland, less water, less deforestation, fewer plant deaths, and fewer animals deaths (though there probably still are animal deaths unfortunately like tractors running over rabbits, farmers killing squirrels).
@candidethirtythree43246 жыл бұрын
hahahahaha livestock eats grass and vegans have to eat tons more vegetable matter than normal people do because there are so few calories in vegetable matter. Those billions of tons of fossil fuel fertilizers and diesel to ship that tropical vegan food from 3rd world countries are causing global warming faster than the local small farms that grow several head of pasture raised cows, pigs & sheep or a flock of free range chickens. I have seen all the hyper refined, over packaged, plastic covered fake foods you people eat... I bet I eat more vegetables than you do and I don't eat ANY tropical fruits grown in 3rd world countries and harvested by child slave labor.
@morgained411 жыл бұрын
Though vegetarians and vegans do kill living creatures, the fact of the matter is the majority of plants cultivated are done so to feed livestock. By shifting to a plant based diet, by reducing consumption of animals, one is not only reducing the number of animals slaughtered, but also the number of plants destroyed as well as reducing deforestation etc.
@candidethirtythree43246 жыл бұрын
That is a LIE, I don't know who told you such lies but I don't grow any cultivated crops to feed animals, they all eat forage off the land and because I never let them over graze an area, it has caused hundreds of different of kinds of grasses and plants to grow all on their own, just like it did before greedy ranchers and farmers destroyed the planet. Stop telling lies...if you don't want to eat meat, then don't but that meat is what is providing all the natural fertilizer for my crops where the shit you eat is being fertilized with petroleum... aka OIL..that millions of humans are murdered for in wars all over the planet each year!
@candidethirtythree43246 жыл бұрын
do yu have any idea how much water is wasted growing and processing almonds for that stupid almond milk? 1,000 times more than it takes to grow pasture raised beef and beef is natural, requires no processing, just a knife to cut it with.

Ok....I am going vegan....have started. Love it so far. However....you assertion that we can save "so much land" by eating soy (tofu) is just not true. We need to grow the soy beans and that takes land.
@davidfryer65096 жыл бұрын
You save the land by eating the soy directly, rather than feeding the soy to a pig. Which is an inefficient use of the resource. Good luck with your journey of being a vegan. It's fun.

For the bacon, I prefer to use a medium-firm tofu, as it gets crispy on the outside and stays tender on the inside. However, my son likes it when I use the firm tofu and not cook it until it's too crispy! Different tastes!
