There are far too many extreme angles, with wide corners with a limited approach. These are exceptional horses, keen and wanting to gallop on. Cross country shouldn't be set up to catch them out, it's not fair on honest horses doing their best. And it's dangerous. Time for a rethink with cross country course design.

Aren’t the combinations & tricky lines how they increase the difficulty though? As I understand, back in the day when lots of horses were jumping the straighter lines without a problem they couldn’t go higher+wider to increase the difficulty (for safety reasons) so they went twistier? Could be wrong!

Thank you for putting this together. So often falls are swept under the rug and never shown. This is so unfair to the horses. If we care about them AT ALL, the course should be more about endurance and less about dangerous gymnastic questions.

With a course like this, placings are really a matter of dumb luck. The riders can do their best and the horses are trying their hardest, but the course is monstrous; terrible angles, tiny little skinnies, no room to turn a horse, and no where to let up for a minute or two. With the heights of the fences and the length of the course, this is an event that unfairly tests horses and riders. At least the riders have a choice - the horses don’t.

The angles of the triangular jumps so dangerous for horse and riders catching their legs a glancing blow on the points at the triangles. They need to space them further apart. As hard as this course was and there was definitely some hard combinations. I think all in all the course was kinder and more horses completed than usual. A usual sticking point alot of the years is normally in the leaf pit where this year the b element was moved further back. I think this year the major question was the rolex corners, specially the b element. These are the best of the best riders and this is the best of the best course. If everyone made it round we wouldnt have a competition and it would turn into a dressage competition. I think the course builders did a brilliant job to ask questions of the best riders and it was in different ways to usual.

Many of those International riders could not have coped with the Trout Hatchery.

Cross it s gone too far with tricky fences just make horses fail. Some builds are very wrong, with fences built in a way that horses use to slow themselves down by brushing their hindlegs on it instead they hear everything falling and loosing concentration for next jump of combination. It looks like a show jumping course with fences built to ruin horses confidence. Really bad and unfair. The cross has been denaturalized, has become real crap. Should be more challenging the time and courses a bit more fluent enhanching natural fences and combinations. True you need to be good but too much is left to luck as well for the best ones. Cross building doesn t mean building traps!
