Loving to cook and bake I am always delighted to visit these kitchens of old. So impressive. Oh that staircase, the wooden carvings. Stunning. The homes were so ornate..the ceilings worth looking at for longer periods. How gorgeous. Oh what a stunning House ( with a capitol H) . A very detailed and well kept jewel of the past allowing us a look into history. Which is what this House oozes. Beautifully captured and documented. So enjoyed this tour with you. Some really fabulous rooms to view in the house. Those ceilings in particular are magnificent. Many times we have though of visiting but ended up heading towards an EH or NT property instead. It takes a bit to part me from my cash. This does look really worth a look though. Hope you are enjoying your day.

Hi Ivor and Robert we have taken out historic house passes this year rather than EH and it includes Burghley . We hadn't used the EH so much and there are quite a few HH places we would like to see so thought it was worth it. Burghley is a magnificent house the state rooms are so lavish with beautiful art and furniture. The gardens are also worth a visit in their own right, with a deer park and sculpture garden as well as a fun garden of surprises which although a favourite of children is also interesting. The house is so magnificent a real treasure house. We like to visit when the south gardens are open. We do go for walks around the sculpture gardens and deer park a few times each year as it is only 30 minutes away but the south gardens are only open for a few weeks each year. Morning both that's a beautiful house with a lot of interesting items like the turtle skulls and the copper which was in good condition seeing how long ago ot was last cleaned :) Loved the Roman staircase. The black and yellow bedroom looked very atmospheric, I'm surethat the queen mother enjoyed her stay there . The art including the ceiling art was very impressive and the 28 acres of gardens looked lovely with the daffodils and lake. Enjoyed this look around guys ~ Anna 🎉

Overall observation: Some beautiful artwork, throughout. (Although, some of the rooms had a few too many paintings on the walls for my taste.) Also appreciated the Olympic medals on display. I had the privilege of seeing some once: they were in a glass case at the Australia Mint in Canberra. (Identical to the ones awarded at the Sydney 2000 Games.) Often wondered how it must feel to have such a thing hanging around your neck...🤩🥇🤗 House: 1:20: Poor turtles! (I'm rather fond of them.) 1:41-47: If I'd have been alive then, reckon I would have been a lowly servant... 2:55-3:32: The "Billiard Room"... set-up for snooker! (Do either of you play?) Sadly, I'm useless at the game! 3:53-4:50: Wow! The "Bow Room" is like one massive painting. (Extremely impressive!) I like it when it's murals - including ceiling; it's when there are just loads of framed paintings on the walls - often, so you can barely see any piece of wall - that's something I'm not very much into. 7:08: Hmm... oddly, this painting reminds me of Capability Brown...! (Who is he, in reality, though?) 8:13: Fancy a game...? (Now, chess is something I'm okay at!) Gardens: Beautiful flowers, fountain... and a place to enjoy a coffee! Finally - and I've said this before - I reckon you two would make pretty good volunteer tour guides. (I'd certainly give you a listen...!)

Hi Phil Burghley is definitely impressive although we prefer a the smaller more intimate houses. We are also big fans of the murals that spread from the ceilings. It always amazes us that we are shown new aspects in the paintings everytime we visit. No neither of us play snooker or pool. The gardens are definitely our favourite area so nice to walk in after having been through the house. Best wishes Dave and Dawn ❤️

Hello Dave! Hello Dawn: I have just discovered your channel because of my love for art and architecture between 1500 and 1900. I have other videos about Burghley House but yours complements them very nicely thanks to your interesting observations. I do not know if you know this but, if the King or the Queen paid you a visit (and this was basic protocol in England as well as in France) it was up to you to provide (and pay) for everything. Therefore more than one nobleman/noble lady gave a sigh of relief when he/she was told that the royal visit was cancelled. 😁😁I wish you both a nice weekend. Regards. Claudio

Gorgeous house 😍 I love places like this! Did you go to Thornbury Castle? We stayed there many years ago, but new management completely renovated the castle. It would be nice to see it now.

Hi Ryan thank you so much. Yes it is a fantastic house the art and furniture are amazing. There is also a sculpture garden and large deer park. It isn't a NT site. We recently joined historic houses and that gives access to the house and grounds. We didn't renew english heritage this year as we thought historic houses had a wider choice for us.
