A few days ago I played as Burgundians in an online multiplayer game. I had 5 towncenters, was cranking out villagers and had paladins to assist my allies. I hit Flemish Revolution to make an instant army after I hit my population cap. Suddenly having the largest military in the game allowed me to completely overpower one enemy that we were struggling against. Took some time to get farmers and lumberjacks back to work, but I was a pocket player and had the time to rebuild.
@ConcaCon2 жыл бұрын
I felt like adding the Burgundians made the Joan of Arc campaign missions quite a bit trickier to navigate when you only had finite units. The coustilliers can be pretty dangerous to engage.

I'm very glad that the Economy overview is back. The analysis of each aspect is how good a civ is going with that specific strategy, so Economy might reflect how good the civ is in booming, and that is a important information.

@jasonsmith19502 жыл бұрын
When I play Burgundians, I tend to get double-bit axe as soon as I can - i.e. as soon as I have a lumber camp. I think that it might even be worthwhile to build the lumber camp earlier than most civs would. The tech comes in early enough that it would be hard for an opponent to punish you for it. With it only costing 50 food (and 50 wood, though I don't really consider that a serious consideration since it increases wood-gather rate, and I'm getting it before I actually need the wood for something else), it doesn't really seem to hurt my early game. At worst, getting double-bit axe early would delay feudal age by one vil, and I suspect that it usually won't even do that.
@mikaj14622 жыл бұрын
Not sure if it pays it back in dark age but you could also have maybe one less vill on wood gathering food which would justify Dbit axe asap.

The Coustillier is great in Hammer and Anvil tactics. the high upfront damage makes them able to do immense damage on a charge and then pull out, while your anvil unit acts to keep the enemy in place or punish them for breaking and pursuing.

Burgundians are my favourite civ so for once I actually knew most of what was in this video, but it's good to get confirmation of what I already suspected in a few areas and the comparison of their cavs to other civs' knights was interesting. I'll also probably end up mixing a few of their unique unit into my armies more often, I didn't realise how good the build time was.

@felixrr73812 жыл бұрын
one thing that I don't think is apparent from the video is that the +25% damage applies to attack bonuses as well, so although it looks almost useless for the bombard cannon and cannon galleon, it's quite a big difference
@AeronKabutoBlade2 жыл бұрын
That also means their bombards actually hit harder than Siege Engineer bombards, but lack the +1 range.
@mikelivingood77972 жыл бұрын
The layout of this video is exceptional. Unfortunately the coustillier video is out of date after the changes. I would be nice if SOTL could update the video. Equal resources gives you 9 knights and 11 coustilliers. Lanchester's law comes into play as the initial extra damage used by extra coustilliers will have a snowball effect. Optimally, if 4 attack one knight they can take it out with the 4 initial hits. DPS and damage per minute do not fairly portray fights as fights will only last 10 to 20 seconds.

I just find it weird that the Coustillier uses a fauchard on horseback. That... wouldn't be ideal. >__> Make more sense if they attacked with a couched lance then switched to a mace. The fauchard was done most likely to make them more visually striking though.
@Volcano49812 жыл бұрын
It does kind of bother me logic-wise but I have to admit it looks cool. Though it doesn't look as ridiculous as Knights with only a sword, or, worse, Cataphracts, just merely tapping infantry with their swords, of all weapons, and mowing them down. You indeed nailed it that Byzantine Cataphracts or Clibanarii irl used maces, and the Parthian model they were based on had two-handed lances, referred to as a contus by the Romans.

the gunpowder bonus also affects the hidden attack bonuses. for example if bombard cannon +200 vs buildings, with this bonus it will have +250

I can see Flemish Revolution being a tech that you would certainly use to seal the deal for a victory, like a final Screw You moment. Like, imagine you’re already winning, but in doing so the other player was able to fight off most of your units leaving you with small numbers to finish the job of destroying his base. You retreat for now, leaving him to think he can rebuild in peace. But, then he notices a huge army of like maybe 90 to 100 Flemish Militia marching their way to his base and he just barely managed to get a few units out. He already knew he was losing, but not like this.

age of mythology did kind of have a similar version of flamish revolution wich was the ragnarok god power for some nordic civs, but it was way superior since it was completely free, the units it transfered into also were hero units and didnt atually block you from building more collectors or midgets, it basically resets your eco instead of commpletely halting it
@questionmark05 Жыл бұрын
AOE3's revolution kinda did the same thing the Flemish Revolution does with revolution, turning all your villagers into minutemen, but you couldn't build vilagers after! You had to rescue them from treasures.

I think Flemish Militia really shines in teamfights. Even if you get rushed, if you can build back up your economy near the safety of allies, you can spam villagers and then toggle to a very large amount of a very solid unit, especially at the end of the game. Also the Coustillier is amazing for backing up your teams pushes/defending.

15:33 question for SOTL: do aztek and indian bonus stacks with burgundians?? Is the food increased with the aztek ally team bonus or the indian ally with theire unique teach sultans??
@mikelivingood77972 жыл бұрын
I will try to answer this and if I am wrong then I am sure SOTL will correct me. The Aztec bonus will stack as for each civilization as each are team bonuses. The Indians would gain a bonus but not a Burgundian teammate. Although an Indian player would be better teaming with a Spanish teammate because of their trade bonus.
@jasonsmith19502 жыл бұрын
The Burgundian bonus works by adding 30 to the resource controlling the relic food trickle rate, which is independent of the relic gold trickle rate. As such, the Aztec and Indian bonuses do not affect the Burgundian team bonus (i.e. the food trickle rate remains at 30 food/relic/minute). I don't know how the Aztec team bonus interacts with Sultans (though I do know that the Aztec relic bonus works by adding 33% to the relic told trickle rate, not by adding a flat amount). So if a Burgundian and Aztec player were on a team, every player on the team would receive 40 gold/relic/minute and 30 food/relic/minute, with Sultans increasing the gold rate to either 43 or 44 gold/relic/minute for the researching player (in theory - I haven't done such a test with Sultans).
@CG-eh6oe2 жыл бұрын
You kinda missed the big thing about Burgundian Paladin: they hit you 1min earlier than usual, as you can start the upgrade immediatly when hitting imp (as opposed to after finishing chav).

The closest I can think of to the Monk point is the Slavs without Heresy or Faith but their actual Monks get the rest of the techs plus extra armour from Orthodoxy, or Vikings for the naval civ point with no access to Fire Ships at all. The siege civs are safe for this round at least, but then again calling them siege civs is kind of an informal designation by us (the AoE community), sooo... Edit: I was going to point out none of the 'siege civs' had Bombards but it's only really Mongols and Celts upon thinking about it again Edit 2: The Slavs point was also before I realised DE gave them Faith some time down the line and now Orthodoxy being replaced with Detinets
