LOCATIONS / STORY:
We take a stop at Savannah’s Colonial Park Cemetery and the mysterious Bonaventure Cemetery.
At Colonial Park, featuring the story of Major General Nathanael Greene, friend of Washington and victor over Royal General Charles Cornwallis in the Campaign in South Carolina and Georgia.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nathana...
Then to Bonaventure to the grave of Charles Mills, who would prepare to be saved by the bell if needed. Then the final stop at the grave of the famous Little Gracie Watson.
THIS CHANNEL:
_________________________________________________________
The Angel face you see is the Haserot, named “The Angel of Death Victorious". The stoic angel is seated on the marble gravestone of canning entrepreneur Francis Haserot and his family. Holding an extinguished torch upside-down, it represents a symbol of life extinguished. Wings are outstretched and the gaze is straight ahead.
IN THE END, DEATH ALWAYS WINS. LEST THE FACES NOT BE FORGOTTEN...
This channel is focused on casually walking and viewing a handful of the thousands of forgotten names and faces at various cemeteries near and afar. Seeing their faces up close. And when able, telling the stories behind their names.
Most graves are unknown and lost to history.
Some are famous.
And some infamous....
....and some with tragic endings.

@Debbie Clark…I understand exactly how you feel. I have developed a health condition called Essential Tremor. It’s very similar to Parkinson’s with tremors, balance issues, slowed reflexes. It is a progressive disease and will get worse as I get older. I have been ordered by my neurologist that I can no longer drive. It has severely impeded my independence and ability to just hop in my car and go anywhere I want. It’s been a huge adjustment and I absolutely detest having to be dependent on others to go anywhere. Ron’s videos are a real treat. I’m so happy to get to go along on his adventures this way.

@@bobbieg3904 My grandfathers suffered from Essential Tremor most of his life. The surgery was pretty new at the time but it changed his life. I believe its called deep brain stimulation and it works by implanting fine wires (electrodes) into a specific portion of the brain. The electrode is then connected via a wires to a battery his the chest. He can switch it on and off with a remote which is crazy to watch. The interesting thing is that when he has it turned on his speech can become a bit slurred so he turns it off when he is speaking to someone. Truly amazing what they can do now days. Now I just have to wait until they come up with treatment for my chronic illnesses.

Wow! Awesome! I love beautiful old southern cemeteries. I know who General Greene is! I didn't know he was buried here. My ancestors knew GW. They were the Payne family of Virginia. My ancestor, William Payne knocked GW to the ground over an election dispute. Later on, GW wrote to him inviting him to a tavern. William thought he was going to challenge him to a duel. Interestingly, they became good friends for years to come. In fact, William Payne's son, also named, William Payne was the pallbearer at GW's funeral in December 1799. First Lady, Dolley Madison's maiden name is Payne. Same relation. Anyway, I absolutely LOVE your video's. I look forward to them. Thank you!

I suffered from sunstroke back in my late 20s. It was horrible! I was desperately I'll. My ears rang incessantly from the amount of aspirin I was given to try to control my body temperature. I had vision problems, was burning up but chilled so hard I thought I would share to death and my jaws would break. I was 3 days under constant professional nursing care and had a headache beyond describing which caused nausea and vomiting. It has permanently messed up my internal thermometer. It is no joke.

Yes, several past summers where the heat was intolerable, I read of people dying of sunstroke. Usually engaged in outside activities and it sounded like it snuck up on them. You started out at Factors Walk at the waterfront. The reason Savannah was not burned during the Civil War was because of the cotton in the warehouses. General Sherman left General Geary in charge to protect the cotton. At 3:42, the grave of Archibald Bulloch has a county named for him up the road off of I-16. Watch the 1997 movie "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" and that describes Savannah. It's about cemeteries too. I lived in the area 20 years. EAGLEGARDS...

@@joelhurley2678 How'd the Confederate Army leave Savannah? A. City fathers surrendered and then the Confederate Army crossed the Savannah River into South Carolina in broad daylight. B. Confederate troops escaped across the river in the dead of night. Why did a portion of Savannah burn 5 weeks later on January 27, 1865? What part of Savannah burned?

@@deborahgibson9039 Nice, I knew a lot of the locals in the movie and found it just like Savannah. My first encounter with the other side was my trip down to the bar, "The Basement " over near Liberty Street. Just 21 years old, I was in shock at that culture.

@@joelhurley2678 History is full of many interpretations. I've had history professors tell me with certainty that Atlanta was primarily torched by Southerners. My gg grandfather, Tennessee, fought at Chickamauga and was captured near Macon by the Sherman forces. My other gg grandfather fought at Nashville with the Michigan infantry.

I wish all cemeteries were as beautiful as these 2 are that you shared in this video. Some cemeteries don’t allow statues, or even headstones that are higher than the ground itself. I guess the reason for that is for easier access for the caretakers that keep the grass mowed. Can’t wait to see the next video of the last cemetery you showed today.

Hey Ron, you know when I was in school I was just bored. History, mathematics I just couldn't bare it . but loved sports. Then I got married to a man that was a history nut! And then my mind turned into a sponge. Watching you everyday like this story well I learned something more. I get a lot from this. Well thank you Mr Man. Always, pj

Hey Ron, it's me! I live in Nevada. Have you heard of Virginia City? They have this very old, supositly haunted cemetery, long ago I went it was not really in great shape then but very old town old head stones. I really loved it, I heard they restored it but can't be really sure. It was a wonderful place.and I felt alive reading of what head stones I could. I don't know historically about it. But it was pretty Awsome. Always. Pj

George Anderson Mercer (1835-1907) was a Confederate officer and lawyer of Savannah, Ga. Mercer kept his diary intermittently during his time as a student in Savannah, Ga., and New Haven, Conn., at Princeton University, and at the University of Virginia, where he studied law. Included are entries relating to hunting and observations of birds; accounts of his Confederate military experiences in Savannah, 1861-1864, the Atlanta Campaign, 1864, service with Mercer's and Wright's division in Georgia and South Carolina, his capture in Macon, Ga., and return from prison to Savannah, 1864-1865; and his postwar work, social life, family affairs, reading and study, and reactions to current events and ideas. Creator Mercer, George Anderson, 1835-1907. According to this article he was Jonny Mercers father.
