Beforus is another, having something to do with time lines. Hive - Alternian term for a house. Recuperacoon - Alternian (name of their species) term for a bed. Moirail - One of the four quadrants (different types of relationships). Human equivalent of a soulmate but with no sexual feelings. Usually perceived as 'best friends', someone to go to in terms of feelings and internal conflicts. Like a therapist, but your best friend. Lusus - Alternian version of a parent or a guardian. Usually portrayed by an animal or a mixture of various animals. Hemospectrum - Blood castes. Shades of red being the lowest and commonly referred to as rust blood. As you ascend from red all the way up to purple and fushcia, the higher one's status becomes and the rarer they are. High bloods, mid bloods, and low bloods. The color of their blood dictates their caste. Heiress - Heir to the throne, so far has only been portrayed by females. Alternia works on as monarchy system, with one supreme leader, her imperial condescension. Wiggler/wriggler/grub(s) - Baby trolls. Toddler or kid in human terms. Culled/Cull - Killed/kill, respectively. Execution. Sopor slime - greenish substance usually found in recuperacoons. The higher you get up the blood caste, the more violent tendencies you'll have. Because of the brutal nature of their environment, it takes quite the toll on troll's mental state, making nightmares more vivid and violent as you go up the caste. Sopor slime keeps troll's nightmares to a minimum, effectively keeping them sane and tame. If consumed, it acts like a drug that relaxes even the most violent of trolls. Flarp - A role-playing game in real time. Think of it as league of legends or WoW, but irl. Very dangerous. Real consequences like losing one's life. Flarping - the act of participating in FLARP. Sweep - Measurement of age. One sweep is the equivalent of 2 human years. Wriggling day - Alternian term for birthday. Respiteblock - Alternian term for a bedroom. General knowledge - Alternia has a brutally society, their culture known for its merciless ways. Murder is common and is usually even looked up upon. They have a special relationship that represents hate or mutual rivalry, but still withholding sexual desires, to portray this brutality in trolls. All trolls are expected to fend for themselves, and those that do die, are just a form of natural selection. Widdling out the weak. Literal sense of survival of the fittest. I think you make fair points on it being dialogue heavy and not enough fighting but Hussie is playing to the audience that LIVES for that stuff. A lot of the dialogue and props or photos dotted about the scenes are riddled with references to homestuck and hints to story so it might seem too much for a player that hasn't read homestuck but personally as a fan I love every single thing and think the continuity and intertexual concepts are super endearing. PS Hussie knows how to write a good character hence homestuck being so frickin long and greatly loved. I would give it a read if you have the time :)

connor g - moiraillegiances are considered a type of romance because the concept of romance in troll culture is more broad compared to the human concept. there's a reason it's called 'quadrants' - one side is red (positive), the other black (negative). That's the top/bottom rows, respectively. Then, you split the romance again into two other different categories going left-right. Concupiscent, which is the sexual/non-platonic side that is used in reproduction. the OTHER side, the concillatory, is the non-sexy side, but still crucial to troll culture. Like I said, romance for trolls is more broad than for humans, as humans normally wouldn't include platonic bonds as a form of romantic relationship (which is stupid, nobody wouldn't go all the way for someone unless they passionately care about them in a platonic kin-ship) Moiraillegiances are used to keep the more dangerous trolls under supervision, making sure they don't hurt/kill themselves or others. The other party member is also taken care of, listened to, protected, etc. Sex and similar forms of intimacy are more a matesprit thing than a moirails thing, admittedly from personal experience (as platonic relationships are definitely possible in real world, close enough to be actual moiraillegiances) Moirails are the red side of the concillatory, BTW. There's also another platonic quadrant used to keep destructive kismesitudes under control, even end them, to prevent massive death and misguided hatred (which is also considered a form of romantic feeling similar to love in troll culture) Jeez, don't mind the ranting, I like the prospect of quadrants, or at least a more broader understanding of what should be considered "romance", as a thing that could one day be implemented in human society, although under different names and reworked. It makes way more sense to me compared to other concepts humans have come up with, at least . . .

The thing about the "dialogue" is that it follows the format of Homestuck. Homestuck was almost completely dialogue after a while and if you just skimmed or skipped over it you wouldn't get the whole character and you'd miss things. Being it's written by Andrew Hussie, (the guy who made Homestuck) it's rather obvious it'd follow the same kind of format with dialogue and story heavy scenes. Of course, you wouldn't have known that but I just thought I'd leave my imput and hope for a response of sorts. I really hope this helps and if possible, you'll continue this when the rest of the game comes out. I have hgh hopes for this, and I love how you've done it and look forward to how you'll take it moving forward. Who knows? Maybe you'll consider reading the comic!

Jack! Moirail is a type of romance that trolls have! They have 4 types (appropriately called quadrants): moirails, matesprits, auspistices, and Kismesis. They are separated by redrom and blackrom (so feelings of love versus feelings of hate, essentially) and are represented by suits on a regular deck of cards I'm going to grossly simplify this (partially because I haven't thought about homestuck in years): Moirails (diamond): It can be considered the love you give your best friend, like a platonic love. You keep the other grounded, and protect eachother's heart. (aka pale quadrant) Matesprit (heart): Most similar to human love/romance. (aka flushed quadrant) Auspictice (club): A person/troll mediates the interactions between 2 others to make sure their relationship stays functional. The mediator technically doesn't really get anything out of this relationship directly. (aka ashen quadrant) Kismesis (spade): Both parties in this pair have to TRULY hate each other. Truly. But that hatred is kind of mixed up with sexual attraction as well. (aka caliginous quadrant)

Hey Jack! You saw that Xefros is in love with a boy but all Trolls are actually pansexual. Gender doesn't mean anything to them. In fact, they have 4 types of love called Quadrants: Matespritship (a matesprite): *(Edit Courtesy of makishei)* Resembles normal human love but usually comes about when one troll pities another. This is represented by the heart symbol. Kismesissitude (a kismesis): Is when two trolls hate each other but they find this attractive. It's a more "violent" way of love but they can also human hate each other which is not romantic at all. This is represented by the Spades symbol. Moiraillegiance (a moirail) is basically the eqivalent of a best friend. Moirails calm each other down when the other is angry or stressed. This is represented by the diamond symbol. Auspisticism (an auspistice): Is a threeway which consists of two people who hate each other (kismesis) but a third person who also hates both or one of the aforementioned trolls. This person acts as the mediator to make sure the Kismesissitude doesn't evolve into unloving hate. This is represented by the Clubs symbol. Kismesis and Auspistice fall into the black love category whilst Moirail and Matesprit fall into the red love category. This is easy to remember by the colour of the suit they have. (Red heart, red diamond, black spade, black club). This is quite long but it is the easiest way to understand quadrants. I hope this helps all the non-homestucks! 😊😊😊

@Toryu-Mau nah fam, homestuck is for gays, and libraries are for CHUMPS. making the plot of homestuck so heavily carried out by dialogue in the form of a direct messenger was such a poor decision on Hussie's part. i love homestuck, and i was dedicated to it for a good portion of my life, but i cant even begin to tell you how many painfully boring pages of dialogue i skipped. the huge lines of dialogue were super overwhelming and too much for readers to take in all at once. i wouldn't call homestuck a webcomic for literary people. i'd call it a webcomic for people SO obsessed with the concept of homestuck that they're willing to fuck up their corneas for the rest of their lives just trying to read it for hours on end. davekat for life tho.

Emeons Cosplays Actually, the somewhat enemies thing isn't completely right- :y It's more of a love hate relationship. It's like... You hate someone, but you have a crush on them?? It usually is healthy. Like friendly hate banter towards eachother, name calling, shoves, etc etc. But it of course get get very toxic, which is why the auspistice has to step in. Andnsometimes, they aren't really needed. It's always a three way relationship no matter what. Just not all is love. And one can have both a Kismesis as well as a Matesprit. Also, candy red bloods is just a mutation. Karkat was the exception for his time- It's all random and can happen to any of the blood types. Most get culled of course though, which was why Karkat kept his such a secret- Also, a matesprit isn't a soulmate. It's simoly a boyfriend or girlfriend. If it were soulmate, there would be reason behind it and they wouldnt drift- But we see a lot of relationships in Homestuckn don't work out. I love Xefros so much. Honestly, coming from Homestuck Withdrawal, this game really helped. The insight having read Homestuck gives so much extra content to Xefros and Joey's interaction. In explanation for those not into Homestuck, or those who are unaware, Xefros and Dammek are Moirails. That means they are basically platonically dating. Moiraillegiance is treated just like human romance, so when Joey goes off on how bad Dammek has been treating Xefros, it's got even more serious implications than is obvious. To Xefros, his new friend is telling him that his boyfriend has been stepping all over him, and he doesn't exactly want to believe it.

Just a couple little glossary things for you! FLARP- Larping, basically. Except with literal consequences, you can actually die. Moirail- *supposedly* pronounced French, like "mwah, rail". It means a best friend and confidante, someone you go to for comfort or hang out with. They complete you. Trolls have names for all romantic relationships. A matesprit is a lover, a kismeisis is someone you hate in an odd kind of romantic rivalry, and an auspitice is someone who steps in between you and someone you hate unromatically because it could be dangerous. Wiggler- Troll baby, also known as grubs. I don't know why some food/drinks are punctuated by grub in the name, it could be like how we have baby-back ribs. Lusus- Animal parent. Everyone has a different one, they're all odd and random. They could be a big cat or a giant muscular centaur or what have you. In this game we see the deercat and a sloth. Trolls have these because they hatch from eggs several generations from who would be their "parents" via a process almost like in-vitro, through a creature called a Mother Grub. Basically, they have no concept of parents, and they have no biological family what with no adults on the planet.

Okay, a lot of other people have written about Quadrants, but this one also has the canon conjugations of all of them; even if you have read Homestuck I suggest clicking read more because one of my pet peeves is when someone gets that shit wrong. All the conjugations I put are canon to the best of my knowledge Matespritship (Hearts): "the flushed quadrant", "they are matesprits", "[person 1] is [person 2's] matesprit". Sexual (concupiscent) and based on positive feelings (redrom). The closest quadrant to human romance so it doesn't need much explanation, the main difference is that it doesn't have as big of an emotional support aspect. Moirallegiance (Diamonds): "the pale quadrant", "they are moirails", "[person 1] is [person 2's] moirail". Non-sexual (conciliatory) and based on positive feelings (redrom). Platonic soulmates who emotionally support each other and balance out each other's flaws. In most cases, the calmer moirail pacifies the more aggressive moirail to prevent the latter from reaching murderous levels of rage. The dynamics are often reminiscent of a sibling connection. Kismesissitude (Spades): "the caliginous [or pitch] quadrant", "they are kismeses", "[person 1] is [person 2's] kismesis". Sexual (concupiscent) and based on negative feelings (blackrom). A potent rivalry between two equally matched individuals who are also attracted to each other. A common misconception about this quadrant is that it's based on the murder kind of hate, but this is completely wrong-- kismeses must also respect each other for the relationship to be sustainable. I think the game is supposed to teach you the basics about troll culture. It’s set on alternia, which means that it’s either a prequel type story to the 12 trolls we know, or it coexists. Which considering the heiress here looks nothing like HIC or feferi it’s probably before. That or feferi is still a grub.

In terms of powers it's kind of inverted in homestuck. The lowbloods are more powerful, but the highbloods have methods of controlling them. For instance, the lusii of fusciabloods will easily commit genocide of lowbloods, making them fear their wrath, despite bronzebloods having potent telekinetic powers.

I'm seeing a lot of people say that kismesissitude is just hatred + sexual attraction, but it's not?? It's based on rivalry y'all, Hussie elaborates on that in Act 6. Only kismeses in a really unhealthy relationship would TRULY hate each other - that's something that would call for an auspitice. Both parties HAVE to have respect for each other, or else it doesn't work. They push each other to improve through spite, basically, but that means there has to be something about each kismesis that the other one looks up to. They probably would never admit that though. So yeah, the pitch quadrant isn't just about hatred. Sexual attraction does play a role though, generally.

Like Gamzee and Terezi's relationship(being kismesis') was very unhealthy because it featured physical and emotional abuse, and caused both to hate each other to the point where they'd actually hurt each other in a not so rival-ry way.

Homestuck itself says kismesis cannot exist without actual 'true hate' for the other. With that said, that hate has to be balanced by just enough respect for the other that there is still value in maintaining the relationship. The best analogy would be the Joker not killing Batman, because the former derives a lot of pleasure/benefit in keeping the latter alive.

Another reason why auspisticism is needed is the inherently-unstable nature of Troll Relationships. They are an aggressive species hailing from a hellish world that divides themselves through blood caste. Civil wars are probably quite common, so auspisticism exists to serve as figurative 'eunuchs' for the left half of the quadrant (and make sure they don't just self-annihilate each other, or devolve into basic tribalism)

Moirails aren't necessarily the same as friends. It's bigger than that. A moirail is a sort of soul-brother; not just a best friend, but someone who completes you or evens you out in some way, such as Nepeta keeping Equius under control. Think of moirails like (platonic) puzzle pieces; they each provide something to the other that they're missing. They keep each other grounded. However, these relationships can be one-sided and toxic, like Karkat and Sober!Gamzee, and possibly Tetrarch and Xefros as well, at which point it's more like a parasitic relationship.
