When I was a kid we used to go every year to a seaside resort. The thing was that the only way to get there would be on a boat. So you'd drive there, put your bags on the boat, it would take you there, and then a few weeks later take you back. And we had loads of friends there that we'd only ever see there, and only once a year. You saying goodbye to your friends on that boat reminded me of that. Of sitting on the dock, waiving goodbye to your friends, knowing that there will be so much time until you see them again... Knowing that soon enough it will be your turn, and people will wave at you from the dock, wondering when they'll see you again.

In the even of a tsunami, no the boats would not be safe. They appear fastened down so they would be swamped with the incoming water. But worse all of the "loose" boats would be carried up like battering rams. Then the destruction when all of the water recedes carrying trees and debris from inland. Best place for a boat is deep water on the other side of the planet. Love seeing the various boats.

I always thought a steel boat was the way to go in my early years. But a westsail 32 it's been my 2-year rebuild. I'll be leaving Washington State USA this year hope to see you out there someday.

With sailboats, steel only makes sense in high latitudes (because of ice), otherwise the benefits do not justiify the significacant additional maintenance.

I went to Suva, Fiji in a big boat many years ago. The channel into the harbor was marked by sunken vessels which sank either by grounding or cyclones. It was passing through a ship graveyard to get into Suva, very eerie

I always look at pleasure boats as I do RVs, very few are used more than ten days a year. In Fiji, the suns effects look powerful, returning the bits and bobs back to the earth.

I was last in Vuda Marine in 1997 - the spectacular Wahoo on the menu and the most amazing locals. A fantastic lady at Waya Island with her tame lizard... and best of all, the Widow Va out on Nanuya Lailai near Turtle Island. Her invitation to much clapping and consumption of Kava with the local chiefs - an illuminating evening when the insect repellent was left on the boat!! How I have missed the place! In 1964 a Tsunami passed into Cresent City, CA. We went there a few days after and ships are almost 2 miles inland. Even roads just go around them. Still there in 2023.
