A super chapter on BN Powder River Coal from our DVD "Burlington Northern Quarter Century" DVD www.cspmovies.com

I have an '09 hire date, so I missed out on some of the older power. The Oakway SD60 relegated to switching the south end of the South Yard of Alliance was one of the smoothest riding, smoothest powering locomotives I've ever ridden in. I also loved and still love the MACs. They pull way strong even for a 4000 hp rated beast, outclassing the AC4400 with 400 more horses.👍

Thanks caseywedel for the inside info on those engines that is really cool! We always loved the MACs, and it did seem like most engineers did too. This was a super time in railroading, you must have had some really great experiences back then. So different than now!

There were two variants of the 3000hp GEs. The C30-7, with a V16 7FDL-16 prime mover, and the C30-7A with a V12 version of the 7FDL. Only Conrail owned the latter model. However, BN did own a 4 axle version of the V12 model, the B30-7A(B). All were cabless units.

I've never seen any of the BN paint schemes except the green with diagonal stripe ends in this part of Oregon.

I'm curious, how much of the sound is from the original recordings and how much is edited in for effect?

All of the sound in this upload is real audio. Those older engines really sound good both GE and EMDs!
