My woodburning technique consists of a magnifying glass and the sun. I print a black & white image, preferably a line-art image, and stick it to some wood with wallpaperglue or any water based glue. I then use the magnifying glass to make a first imprint. The black ink soaks up heat from the sun a lot better than the white from the paper so the process easily forgives minor mistakes. It does take practise, though. I have a very steady hand now. After burning I scrub off the paper with water and a scrubbingsponge, and then I can go for a second burning if I feel it needs to have some more depth. Awesome method. Highly recommend you try this in the summer.

@tstuff

You can pick up a heat gun for under $20 at some stores. I doubt a hair dryer would reach temperatures that would be needed. Or at the very least could take forever to react.
