If you do get stuck with a Q in the end then pawn it off as QI.

Thanks - I liked that you defined everything, and showed illustrated examples. I wish more people would take knowing the meaning of words seriously.

Thanks Corinne Braun. Yes, I must admit I have been through the list-memorization thing, but like you, I find the meanings and stories behind the words a lot more interesting and satisfying.

Hey all. Just wanted to point out to Collins players that one word in that video, namely NIQAAB, with a double-A, is only available in OSPD5 (i.e. not CSW). I chose to include it anyways because in the next edition of Collins (due out in early 2015) it *will* be allowed. So just keep that one in the top drawer for a few months ;-)

with collins you can just spill tiles out of the bag and everything is a word in collins

Personally I don't think of Q as a liability at all. In fact I find it a huge asset as do many of my opponents. Many of them would rather have Q rather than J, X or Z.
@alm77072 жыл бұрын
I won't necessarily keep a q until I get a u, but I will not keep a u thinking I might get a q. I try to get a q or an x on a triple letter spot even if I just put down qi or ax or xi.

Though derived from Latin alphabet, its use in modern English is to help pronounce none English words. Lovely to see how diverse it could be presented, like this well put video.

Thanks Derek, I am embarrassed to think how I have been mispronouncing some of these! But if you are going to start including new words from ODSPD5, like NIQAAB, you need to stress that these won't be playable outside the US for a good while yet.
@StephanieTeasdale10 жыл бұрын
Hi David Sutton. I think NIQAAB is the only OSPD5 word in my vid that is not yet in CSW, but hopefully it won't be long. You should be thankful I didn't fill the video up with gems like QAJAQ ;-)

Love these videos .. and USE the words .. course, I'm thinkin others are as well, but, that's where the 'STRATEDGY of SCRABBLE' comes into play :-) Good stuff Derek :-)
@StephanieTeasdale10 жыл бұрын
True Marilynne S. If both you and your opponent know these sorts of words, then it will come down to strategy. Maybe I'll have more videos on that subject down the track some time.
@JennyJardin10 жыл бұрын
It would be helpful to show the plurals, too.
@StephanieTeasdale10 жыл бұрын
JennyJardin To make the most efficient use of the medium possible I usually only comment on the *non-standard* plurals (e.g. SHEQALIM and QINDARKA in this video). If I don't comment explicitly on the plural of a noun, you can be pretty sure the standard pluralization applies (all the words in this video take an -S for example). More generally though, I treat things more thoroughly back on my website, so I can make the videos a bit less dry.
