Weathering your equipment is vital. With all brand new kit you would stand out like a sore thumb. Burning is important to give your wool items a head start.

Thank you for not reenacting in original items, I don’t like it when people do that because they are supposed to be behind glass, being preserved just as they are. So I appreciate you using reproductions :)

I have an atthefront M36 tunic. I wore it as my winter jacket (without the eagle) for 6 or 7 years. That's another way to weather a uniform.

Great advice - i especially love your last line , take it easy because you can always do more but you can’t repair if you do too much to start with . I wish I had done this when I first started to age tunics ... ..! Thank you for your vids , I love your channel 👍🏻

Into German reenactment too. I've done the same treatment as you did. I'm just a soldier, so no heavy wear and tear on my stuff. But like you said a headstart. Even as a soldier the uniform and kit went trough training, traveling, workduty etc. I'll allow the stains and aging to happen during my own time in the field. And hearing your accent. Groetjes van een mede Nederlander.
@dergrenadier2 жыл бұрын
Exactly. Not everybody needs to look like a veteran of 10 years. But nobody needs to look like they just joined two days ago. En, oh ja. Groetjes terug 😂

Actually you can use flames to weather your uniform. Just do it withe care and dont stick to one place for to long. End results are very nice. Your uniform also gets the color as if it was worn in the sun for a long time.

I‘m good with shaving the wool but prefer not to burn and just let the uniform gather age with natural use. Where did you get your belt and buckle? It looks great.
@dergrenadier Жыл бұрын
Vincent belt. Buckle is a JFS marked steel repro, one of the better ones. In some ways just shaving is better. If done right burning can ad some charm as well. It kinda depends on the look you want to get

Love your videos! However, I am against aging uniforms and gear. Seems like the younger reenactors want the aged look without putting in the effort of aging it naturally in the field.
@dergrenadier2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate the comment! I'm a big fan of a middle road. I see weathering more like a head start instead of making an item look extremely worn right away. The fact that everybody does it their own way makes for a nice authentic look.

does burning your uniform make it thinner? ik no brainer burning shaves of a bit of wool but does does it make a difference as to how cold or hot would it be wearing them? Im in the philippines and its hot af here and the feldblusen is too thick for our climate. (Can't buy the HBT ones since their not purchasable anywhere without USD for some reason)

My Grandfather fought in the Wehrmacht and was prisoned by the soviets until 1954, in the 60s he punched his son (my uncle) in his face when he said that he will join the Bundeswehr. The only people who like war or like to play war are those who have never been near one. Its so sad that in 2022 there are still young people around the world, who are wearing Wehrmacht uniforms in there free time, especially with real swastikas on it... The only reason in Germany, not to go to jail for this, would be for film making, but even for that you would need a licence from the state.

Thank you for commenting this. It is important to know and share stories and opinions like yours and your family. Please know that I do not re-enact because I want to be disrespectful to anyone. But because I think it is important to share knowledge about history, and to never forget about the things that happened back then.
@BCB77B Жыл бұрын
If you ignore history, you tend to repeat it. People reenact all kinds of things and eras. It has nothing to do with glorifying war. It has everything to do with remembering the loss by educating common people through what is called "Living History", There are people who reenact Roman, Greece, and Medieval eras. They are not glorifying war.

No need to disrespect the young man for having interest in military history. He for sure does not embrace the ideology once imposed during the war. He is guilty of none crimes here.
