Great video. I've been to every burn since 2007 except for 2021...and I regret not going. So happy to see that people honored the temple which has become by favorite and most important aspect of the burn. You did a wonderful job of capturing the feeling and I truly appreciate it.

Thank you. 2021 was a burn for the history books. There was a lot of freedom. A lot of community effort. No tickets. No gates, no fences. You could drive all around anywhere you wanted. I also caught wind of it being one of the safest burns. It will never happen again. It was nice to see the event go back to its core.

This was beautifully captured, thank you. I had to leave before the Temple Burn. I agree with the person who talked about the temple being the most significant part of the burn. The burning of the man on Saturday represents the fire and energy of the experience, but the temple burn represents the heart and soul of the people who crusade to the desert each year...to what we call home. It's hard to leave such a special place every time, but I truly appreciate videos like this that capture how sacred our shared experience is.

You are welcome! And wow 9th Burn! I really appreciate this comment, thank you so much for leaving it. If you are interested in how the even ran without the help of the ORG, read some of my comments here. I have notes on the 2021 burn and what was different from a normal burn. It was a historical year for the event. Will never happen again. Some good, some things missed.

Nicely done piece, my respect for the gall it takes to publish such a personal, sacred space. That being said, the drones during the temple ceremony were the one detriment to the feelings of peace and catharsis. I wish you will have respect enough to keep it in the bag in the future

Thank you. I feel like these kind of moments at Burning Man should be known. Many feel like the temple is the heart and soul of the festival. I was by the temple during the Temple burn. The noise from the saws and hammers were my detriment. It broke the vibe, but I understood what needed to be done. I remember seeing a couple of drones flying around. They didn't seem to bother me though. I didn't use a drone to get these shots. I had a camera on a 10 foot pole. I don't even own a drone.

How can fire be a hazard when there is no vegetation whatsoever
@ToddKortte3 жыл бұрын
Tents, camps, RVs can all go up in flames and spread pretty quickly. Anyone twirling fire or any art car blasting fire got a warning from the Rangers. After a warning, you can get arrested.

Please research the playa upon which Burning Man takes place. It is sacred Paiute Indian Tribal Land. It’s the former Lake Lohanton and is filled with the skeletal remains of millions of creatures from the Pleistocene era. I’ve even heard that fairy shrimp lay dormant there and only come alive when it rarely rains. It is the chief and the tribe that request we Leave no trace. This place is also a sacred vortex space and a spiritual healing space for so many around the world. Fire that scorches or burns the playa must be restored and that’s not an easy task.
@ToddKortte3 жыл бұрын
Yep an amazing place with some fascinating history. The Palute settled in the area around 1300 AD. A couple land speed record attempts were made in 1983 and 1997. I don't think too many people are worried about the shrimp since it takes a couple months or rain to bring them back, the average rainfall is 7.9 inches, and there has been rocket launches in 1996 and 2004. Imagine what a rocket would do to burning the playa. From what I saw this year at BM, people wer conscious about mooping and leaving no trace. Ive even seen some groups organize some return visits the weekend after to sweep the area once more to leave no trace. I am more worried about the trash that has to be carried out. There really needs to be a paid dumpster site for this. I did see a truck driving around the playa taking peoples' trash. They were pulling a big trailer suited for trash.

@@ToddKortte I’m not trying to go on a rant here, but Burning Man is about community. And to disregard all infectious disease protocols and to go against the org for your own selfish old school Burn on indigenous lands is not cool. I’m glad y’all had fun, but not exactly setting a great example for the rest of the Burner community.
@ToddKortte3 жыл бұрын
@@BZandpower Yeah good point. Taking a risk with covid isn't cool. It's a good thing the event is outdoors in a well ventilated area. And since there were no dust storms this year, most people did not have dust masks over their faces. Possibly increasing the risk. I got a covid test right after coming back. Came out negative. I see more people crammed into a sports event than what we saw out at BM. With that said, nobody was going against the ORG. The ORG didn't have the event because of money, not because of covid! No ticket sales means no money, and the ORG is not going to gift the time and money needed to plan the event. The permit for the space on the Black Rock Desert alone costs millions $$$$. Also, the ORG was there on the playa this year, like everyone else! I had a deep talk with a Ranger, and with an employee of the ORG while out on the playa. The Ranger was telling me that since there is a lack of resources to help in case of an emergency, they were relying on the community to pull together and help. Opinions on that were...the community worked together better this year, than in the past with event being organized. There were less incidences reported of rape, theft, crime, injuries..... We are also talking about 30,000 vs 70,000 people though. So a more fair number would probable be a ratio. Bottom line...the event was a success. Not a shit show. Which was really nice to see. The community came together and pulled off a historical burn. This year will be talked about for many years to come. I talked to many 18-20 year burners who said this is what the event felt like before it got too big and controlled.
@BZandpower3 жыл бұрын
@@ToddKortte i appreciate your thorough response. Sorry for sounding like a troll. Were there really 30,000 people?! I guess the question for the future is “Has Burning Man moved beyond the Org?” As an 8 year burner myself (first in 2006)and a front line Covid doctor, I’ve had very mixed feelings about everything I’ve seen in the last year and a half. I hope that everyone that went can infect us with their positive vibes. Oh wait, poor choice of words…. lol. )’(
@ToddKortte3 жыл бұрын
@@BZandpower These are all excellent questions! I talked to as many people as I could regarding all of this. 20,000 were expected to show up this year. The Ranger that I talked to said they were estimating more on the 30,000 that actually showed up. Since there were no tickets sold, and no head count done at no front gate, it is hard to say. There were Reno Burners that showed up the first weekend, set up camp, had their fun... returned to work for the week, and then headed back out for the 2nd weekend knowing their camp was already set up. Some Burners were still there since 4th of Juplaya. It's really difficult to het an accurate head count with people coming and going as often as they please. Which was another freedom bonus this year. You could drive to Gerlach for ice and a hot pizza, then drive right back to your camp! You were free to come and go whenever you want.....and camp wherever you want. Some camped a couple miles away from the center. There was never a long line to get in or out of the event. There were 3 entrances/exits you could use at any given time. Do we need the ORG? Great question. The 3 major things Burners said they missed was: 1. Art 2. Infrastructure (named streets. People were always lost since there are no big structures for reference. Everything looked the same) 3. Fire (only contained fires above ground were allowed. No big burns, fire bursts, fire twirling. You got a warning first, then arrested/fined) The ORG provided the funds for the big art installations. Allowed us to have fun fire bursts. Organized health and safety. Toilets. Organized streets (2021 there was an esplanade circle and sort of clock streets, but nobody knew where they were and often were lost. If you had a GPS map app on your phone, that was the best way to find your camp.) The ORG also funded the airport, the front gate, the tickets. The ORG also set more rules and restrictions. So we do need the ORG for certain things, but the event can happen without the ORG... as 2021 was proof that this is possible and can happen successfully. The 2021 burn was unique. A flashback in time. A free event. It won't happen again. Even if it tries to repeat itself next year, it wont' be the same. the BLM I am sure will want money for a permit or entrance fees, to increase safety measures and costs to oversee the event. Could a Rogue Burn happen at the same time as the organized event?.... for those who did not get a ticket, or can't afford a ticket? Could a Rogue Burn happen a week before, or after the organized event? Many old school Burners said they believe the 2021 Burn will have an impact on the organized event. In what ways? Only time will tell.
