Welcome to the weed burners club! I have been at it for years. I use Red Dragon kit from Gameco, its brilliant. Pro tip, don't try to burn the weeds; just heat them enough to cook them (color fades). Wet weed flaming is best. Heat till you see steam and they are dead. Always apply water afterwards just in case you got over enthusiastic and created embers. No chemicals and well its a dam site more fun using a flame thrower. PS redo when you see baby weeds coming up, it will really nail them. Keep up the great content, love the channel!❤‍🔥

Great assessment Tim! My lesson to add to the discussion is to take it easy around plastic irrigation pipe!! Learned the hard way!

Tim! Those MUST BE some pretty big NUTS! THANKS, for another GREAT information video! I set my tank up, exactly like yours! The ONE thing I learned on my own, was on overgrown weeds from years of neglect (and thank God no Glyphosate), on a High Tensile fenceline pasture, that I moved my horses to. The weeds were thick and thatched over the wire, with years of growth! Little did I know, that HT wire DOESN'T LIKE FIRE! The lowest 3 wires all became brittle and then broke when I tried working with them! Bummer! I've used torches for weed control all over and love it as much as respecting it. Especially in drought when weeds LOVE to take over! I need a new torch this fall, so I'll have to check out the models you've shown here! As always, your opinions and recommendations are ALWAYS SPOT ON, MATE! Love your channel!!❤❤❤❤

Have you tried or are you going to try the Weedtechnics steam weeder? We have one and it is just a beast! I think you'd enjoy it and find a benefit from it. My observations of the fire method is that it doesn't kill the roots, just the exposed surfaces. The steam weeder can get into the root zone and actually kill the whole thing. It would take longer to actually do the job though as the plants need more time exposed to the steam and it probably costs more to run than the fire method. That said though we have used it to control really tough weeds that roundup and grazon were having a tough time controlling. ...and a side benefit, it also doubles as a high pressure steam cleaner as well. Nice work Tim.

i’ve used the weed burner from harbor freight for several years. it works great, and can be ran at a low candle intensity for the pilot flame. very handy with a 5 or 10# bottle doing controlled burns

I had zero knowledge of this technique. when I saw just how little you burned and how quickly you did your passes, I thought you were wasting your time and would get zero results! will give this a try next season. I've done 6km worth of fenceline with roundup previously. will be very keen to assess the outcome and time difference.

I've found that flame weeding works best when weeds are very small and it's faster and less labour-intensive than occultation for row crops that can't be grown with plastic mulch. I've got a few burners strapped to a toolbar that makes it a cinch to burn raised beds with the tractor... actually takes longer to put it on and take it off the linkage than it does to do the weeding!

I have been burning weeds for 3 years around trees, equipments, grass burr & fence. It helps a lot to control but it doesn’t burn the roots. Buy a longer one 36” or 50” the ground gets pretty hot🔥.

Good point. I have a Shields Weed Control burner and I wonder how long I have to hold the nozzle at the ground to heat the roots? Also how far down does the heat penerqte the ground? I have yet to get a thermometer, burn 30sec, 60m sec etc dig the ground and measure the heat penetration.

I was surprised how fast you went along. How about using this for controlling green tough stuff like ragwort, thistles etc ? Would that work instead of chemicals as I have had enough of PPE gear.

We tried using a flame thrower for yrs. Quickly found out some weeds LOVE fire- they grow back faster & fire pushes plant into producing seed no matter time of year. It was really fun though - thistles, hate flame! Tussock grasses-no.

I tried this small scale with a blow torch in my vege patch. I had to hold it on so long for some, i questioned its benefits. Maybe i was doing it wrong?

in this video it was a quick cooking of the weeds. i am impressed. i had a similar weapon but never thought about using it this way. i tried the burn to the ground technique. it was obviously unecessary afterv seeing this video. try speeding it up in your vegie patch next time.

*I had a bad rupture from a torch line, and it shot a huge ball of fire everywhere.* Now I use a fresnel lense, and good 'ol sunshine to fry weeds. I use a simply pillow sack for safety, and have someone follow me with a bucket of water and a mop. During "no burn season" we use a high pressure water wand to target weeds....but it's more difficult than the fresnel.

I'm going to look for a convenient place to hang a gas bottle off the back of my ride on. Trundling around the property with one of these flamethrowers in one hand and a coldie in the other holds a certain appeal.

Did you say that cultivation is worse for the soil than herbicides?
@FarmLearningTim
@FarmLearningTim Ай бұрын
Cultivating under vines in a vineyard and removing all roots and living things from the soil is worse for fertility than herbicide treatment. This is because the cultivation is disturbing all of the soil.
