I suspect that Nketiah and Nelson are specifically given instructions not to be a hero, but to keep it ticking along. They are playing as the starters have played in the 40 minutes or whatever in earlier games when we didn't create chances against a low block. They are simply not taking unnecessary risks. And at 0:5 and 0:6, the risks get increasingly unnecessary. If they did some heroics that led to an opposition scoring on a break, we'd be completely tearing them apart. They are young forward players, I gather it is easier to get them fired up to take crazy risks (like at Bournemouth or United) than to get them mentally prepared to stick to the script and play it safe. Whenever I hear this kind of comments, it reminds of Pep taking off Henry at Barcelona after he scored a goal, because he didn't stick to the plan.

When we had Ødegaard on loan I couldn't understand the hype and was disappointed we splashed out €35M for him. Now I have his name on the back of my shirt, and suffice it to say I'm a convert.

I keep hearing this suggesting that Odegaard should have had so many more assists this season if only our players took their chances. It's not really true though, he has 7.1 expected assists and 6 actual assists, so if we were performing at XG he would have had 1 more assist. (Stats from understat) I'm not knocking what he's doing, he's unbelievable, I just prefer statements backed up with fact and that one isn't.

I understand this take from a statistical perspective, but ideally 7.1 Xa would give you more than 7 assists because attackers would ideally be slightly overperforming Xg. Also with the eye test he should have more than 7 assists as well. Those two things combined are why folks feel like he should have a few more assists.

That's not how xg works. Arsenal xg against Burnley was 2.5. With better finishing, 0.5 or 0.3 xg chances would be going in. 7 xg should have yielded 10 to 12 assists.

@@sandboxplayerz667 No, that's not how Xg works, if attackers were missing chances that typically they would score they would be higher Xg chances. Odegaard 'should' have 1 more assist that he has. That's what Xa is.

It's realistic to expect them to perform at or around Xg. Which would mean Odegaard would have 1 more assist then he currently has. Peoples impression is wrong. Not the stats.

@calvinjaynum1767 I've been an Arsenal fan since Terry Neill (when we were really bad). I love a number of players that have left in the last few years, the players who gifted Arteta his only trophy. Not ashamed to admit i'm not a fan of Arteta. Happy to be proved wrong. really don't like his David Brent management style. In any other industry his management style would get reported to HR and lawyers would be representing players in tribunals.

Eddie just refuses to kick on. The folk that don't rate Odegaard are just thick or blind. Other teams see how good he is and try to nullify him. Even the best get nullified at times by other teams targeting them. He is excepplayer
