It was a natural position though. He naturally extended his arms to balance himself to make the tackle/ block. Pepe was also in close proximity to Pieters making it impossible for Pieters to get his arm out the way (this is ultimately why Kevin Friend ruled it not a penalty). So how Arsenal fans think it's a penalty, I don't know.

Xhaka has one big problem in his game. You don’t pass the ball to him under any kind of pressure especially facing his goal. He’s not a dribbler and he cannot caress the ball or turn with it, so I f you do, he must have a ready outlet that is completely unmarked with no opponent in his passing lane, otherwise he’ll give the ball away. He has done it so many times! He is also not a soft passer. He can only hit the ball hard. Leno was a complete and total idiot to have made that stupid pass to the wrongest possible person in the football universe, when he could’ve cleared the ball out himself. 😤

Xhaka needs to go. Mistakes aside, he still slows our play, keeps hold of the ball for 5-6secs and still passes backwards or sideways. We cleared a lot of crap out in January, but we still have a couple left (Xhaka/Bellerin/Elneny) that have been here since Wenger

My advice is to forget about var, just do what you got to do, take your chances and defend well. VAR referees and the refs don’t care in the premier league, so it’s really up to you to decide the game. Never a good idea to depend on var and the refs, because they always make the wrong decisions, so forget them. Until the premier league can actually sort all of that out.

It was definitely a situation where you "hoof it long". You don't pass it around the back at any cost. If you are under pressure with all the players back being marked then you kick it up the pitch. There is no benefit to us passing it around the back because when we get pressured they end up losing it. Surely the whole point of passing it round the back is creating space up front? If you don't kick it up pitch there's no benefit of doing it, just risking something like that happening. You also have to pass it around a lot quicker than what we do, our play is so slow, either the players lack motivation or Arteta is telling them to be calm at all times but they need a higher sense of urgency to try and win the games.

Its amazing how Elneny is criticised as not being of quality and Xhaka has been lauded as the player of the month for February. I have never felt he has been our required quality from his inception. DT is correct I can not understand why Xhaka could make such an error, especially in the situation he found himself. The misses not sufficient from us and the referee and VAR are seriously confusing. This refusal to acknowledge a blatant hand ball is ridiculous. Spurs were given a penalty against Fulham when the ball hit a Fulham defender, whilst his hand and arm were flush at his side. This was a case the Burnley player's hand was so far out he was waving to non existent fans in the stands. Stonewall cold penalty!
