So now that you completed the DLCs, a little piece of lore: Each one of the queens is a daughter of Manus (the DS1 DLC boss). When we killed him, his soul was shattered into small pieces. And each one the queens represents a sin or a negative emotion: Greed, wrath, fear... As you noted, the old chaos is a remnant of lost izalith. When the witch of Izalith tried to create a second first flame, she ended up spawning the chaos and all the demons we find in Dark souls. So the Ivory king literally married a fragment of the abyss, made her love him, built his throne on top of literall hell to be the first line of defence if any kind of demon got out of there and when things went sour he plunged into the chaos to fight alone.

That is so freaking cool thank you for sharing! I don't know how I didn't connect, Abyss and Father to Manus during that dialogue haha

I've heard several variations on what the four dark ladies represent...As far as my interpretation goes: Nashandra was the smallest fragment and so WANTED for everything she didn't have, Elana's kingdom was ruined by the Drakeblood Knights and the Dragon, and since she was full of WRATH, she wanted vengeance (As she says when you enter, she puts you down below her saying you don't even deserve the mire, corrupting Velstat, perhaps filling said dragon with her poisonous songs), Alsanna was her father's FEAR and so sought a strong king, but when that king left, she was alone in a frozen city (probably the worst fate for someone with a fear complex when you think about it), and last Nadalia, who had her father's POWER and thus sought a powerful land, and when she found the Iron King's land abandoned by Sir Alonne and the King dead, she made it her own and enticed travelers to the land by dancing so as literally to become as smoke...it is said that she renounced her body to the ash idols to spread said smoke (The one that curses you in-game and gives enemies that ash coating) to control the land and those in it... Want, Wrath, Fear, and Power...the four corruptions of humanity...as Saulden says, "Don't you see what that means? To be alive, that's the real curse right there." I think it's why Vendrick also says something to the effect of, "When the fire fades, men will assume their true form." Harkening back to DS1 where when disparity appeared between light and dark, life and death, humans and gods came out of the dark (Gods claiming great souls, humans claiming the Dark Soul), but we were dwelling in dark, and at the end of DS1 it is said that humans will usher in an age of dark, and the humanity sprite seems to represent darkness incarnate...the philosophical implication are pretty interesting...

Ah yes, the Canada DLC… Burnt Ivory King is such a cool boss in terms of visuals and even the move set, one of the coolest looking bosses in the series imo. It’s been such a blast seeing you experience these DLCs, no matter how painful they were to play through at times e.g the messed up hedgehogs in this DLC. Can’t wait for the final stretch, the last couple main game bosses etc. and other stuff you might want to do!

When you do get around to beating the game, please please please try a couple post-game things before moving on: When you beat the final boss, don't begin ng+, just return to the bonfire. Then fast travel to the King's Gate bonfire in Drangleic Castle. Use a Bonfire Ascetic on it and head up the ladder to the floor above. You want to go to the throne room with the two empty chairs, up the stairs near the main castle entrance, just passed Chancellor Wellager (the ghost npc) The true Dark Souls II begins in that throne room. 🙏

Fair enough, I liked Brume Tower well enough but the underground temple was just annoying imo, there was barely any challenge to the puzzles, it was more just frustration. I just love the aesthetics of Eleum Loyce and with the weapon I had, the enemies in the area were a cakewalk for the most part, save for the hedgehogs, but those I just used arrows on. The only thing I'll say is that the Frigid Outskirts are garbage, even for co-op. That's legitimately one of the worst areas in any FromSoftware game.

Mati, you remember the bird lady who trades boss souls for weapons? There is another guy who does the same but offers different stuff, the stone statue of a mage looking guy in the Lost Bastille blocking the last bonfire in a cell by the long bridge to Sinner's Rise...before you finish the game (Since you haven't been consuming bosses for souls) you should check out what you can trade in, there is some badass stuff on offer...it's also a kind of convenient way to see which bosses you have killed and which you haven't...

You missed the snowball by the last knight you found. You could knock it down and it would build itself big enough to connect the bridge. I honestly think that some of the most clever npc invaders come from ds2. That stealth backstab and bow, and the phantom disguise ring are so great details. They literally try to lure you into traps. It's such little details that are so good. Ivory King was one of my favorite boss scenarios of Dark Soul. What's rough is trying to farm Loyce Souls for the not burnt set and special dialogue face to face. Most people forget what this story means when they get to DS3.

You can actually farm that aria for quest item and when you get enough of them, she will brake some of the ice, that blocks the path to her and give an item. Then when you get 50 souls of those knights in total, you can walk up to her and she will give you her soul and die at peace, knowing that you took back the kings and his knights souls from the chaos.

A bit of lore SPOILERS, to save you a lot of grinding... That last bit of the frozen lady's dialog about the knights is telling you to go back into the chaos and collect Loyce souls (I think you have one)...at 5 or so increments you get the Loyce set that the knights are wearing, and if you get 50 you get the Ivory King set available at Majula and the lady (Alsana's) soul...it's a pain in the ass, and the only real benefit is the lore on her soul that states that she is the fear aspect (IIRC) of Manus, Father of the Abyss...each of the large black soul items (From the 3 DLC ladies and Nashandra) are each one emotional aspect of Manus...and one could say, destructive aspect of humanity...wrath, fear, want, and power...

As one who played this game for the first time in 2022. The Ivory king was one of my favourite bosses in the game, but if I have to be honest, fighting the knights before him killed the fight. I feel like once your allies closed the portals they should have stay closed and not reset after each death. It would have kept the epic intro special and kept momentum going strong after failed attempts.

tbh Darklurker is my favorite boss in this game by far and I would never do the fight without permanently clearing out the enemies. The fact that you get mist walled out until you kill them is just dumb, you gotta pick one of the sites, kill the enemies 15 times while you learn Darklurker's moves, and then do it. It's an investment.
