When I lived in Cooper city these guys were like landmines. You would be just walking down the sidewalk with your dog at night and suddenly you are assaulted with a blood curdling screech of an owl burrowed under the sidewalk

They are infesting florida now and nothing we can do but to sacrifice pieces of land for them.

I usually don't comment, but I have to share this. I was in the woods and needed to crap so I ducked off. Got crozy with my stance, and this devil owl basically did the rest.

Owls are so damn cool. I love them! Also, screech owls do not screech, but barn owls do, and I find that very funny.

Even scary if it were at night you can't tell if it is a rattle snake or not, but why take that chance?

I heard exactly this sound a few minutes ago and thought as much it's this kind of owl cause I saw it last month in my yard although it ran away from me quickly. And my family doesn't believe that we have the owl in the yard

It's not that crazy if you know how natural selection and evolution work. They live in burrows (where rattlesnakes are common), so the burrowing owls which had a rattlesnake-sounding call had a better chance at repelling mammalian predators (who know that a rattlesnake rattle is bad news). These burrowing owls with the rattlesnake call died less frequently to mammal predators and were able to make more babies than burrowing owls that DIDN'T have rattlesnake calls. Is it still cool? For sure. But they weren't "given" that trait by any godlike figure. The trait was the result of natural selection and evolution.
