Zeos, remember Burson is from Austrailia so everything spins the wrong way down there. They even drive on the wrong side of the road. Might explain why their dials go the wrong way.

I've owned the Burson Soloist 3X Performance for about a month and a half. Long story short it's a beast and it's sound signature is smooth, ridiculously detailed, and highly refined. I paired it with an RME ADI-2 with a pair of Hedd AMT headphones as my daily drivers and I'm transported to a higher dimension. What an amazing audio experience.

how much better is the amp in burson soloist vs rme adi 2 for headphones?
@ilusiil

@@Todeon FWIW, I don't have the Soloist (but will get one soon), but both the full sized headphone out and IEM out on the RME ADI-2 sound very mid-fi, at best, to me. It just isn't very refined (it's kind of rough), revealing and the sound stage is terrible: congested, small, little layering, etc. My Gilmore Lite Mk2, Cayin iHA-6, Woo Audio 6, and even Schiit Asgard 2 all sound better. I thought the RME ADI-2 would be a AIO solution and I could get rid of my amps; not a chance.
@ilusiil
@ilusiil 2 жыл бұрын
@@dHolbach77IMO the RME ADI-2 is an excellent DAC which is unfortunately paired with an average AMP. Yes the soundstage isn't the widest but it's very detailed, layered, with an extremely low noise floor. It also doesn't color the sound and is very neutral (which is exactly what I'm looking for in a DAC), so it's the other components in your set-up (headphones, AMP, etc.) which will ultimately decide the end result of the sound signature you experience. Additionally; It's AMP is pretty anorexic, especially when paired with mid-high impedance headphones, but once paired with a capable AMP it really does shine.

I bought this a few months ago, on rec from Passion for Sound. Correction /modification on ZEOS statement regarding Soloist op-amps. The "op-amps" are actually discrete class A amplifiers housed in a 'op-amp" enclosure. Good to know it drives the Hifiman HE6SE. It drives my Arya, using balanced cables, with headroom to spare. Its a nuanced upgrade from my Topping A90. The differences aren't in your face obvious, BUT, when listening for sound stage cues, Soloist 3x beats it. My headphones are Arya, HD800S, LCD-XC and LCD-4. DACs are Topping D70S and Schiit Yggdrasil A2. Soloist 3x IS my endgame HP amp. BTW, the remote battery arrived DOA. I had to go to the big chain corner drugstore to replace it. Removing the battery without damaging the remote wasn't obvious to me. I emailed Burson about the procedure. Got a useful reply the next day. Great customer service!

Have had mine coming up to a year now being fed by a Chord Hugo2 with the 2go streaming module. Took me MONTHS to realise the soloist has a headphone power amp mode so I can control volume straight off the DAC. The icon on the screen changes and the volume is disabled. What can I say ? This is just bliss , makes my power hungry Aeon2 (closed) sound like theyre having their best life . The chord is renowned for being resolving, clean and maybe a tad lean , but the Burson is like that auntie that sneaks you meat pies to fatten you up . Just lovely . It looks a treat on my desk and I'm sure on the quietest track I can hear it whispering "you want those Meze's now don't you" The build quality is just 🤤🤤🤤

I have been through many headphone amps this last year, but stumbled upon “passion for sounds” review of this unit and wanted to try it. Low and behold on headfi a gent bought this and used it for 3 hours, said his current amp was better and listed this for 899……..snagged it and haven’t even thought about buying another amp. Paired with a silver bifrost 2 the combo is silver and visually appealing with the sound to match (this hobby is so subjective), but honestly after trying so many amps this one just sounds excellent and powers anything From IEMs to hifiman he6. Love it and the small footprint since my desk space is the tiny corner of my living room.

For the experiment, I paired this with low end DAC such as Zen dac and modious through balanced output. With midfi or high end dac, I don't hear major differences. Of course, it is my initial impression only and I need to spend more time. However, I still think that it is not worth it to buy high end dac because the differences are subtle. Amplifier is absolutely different though.

I have the Soloist 3x and ADI-2 DAC. I honestly can't tell the difference between this setup and my S.M.S.L SP200 and a Massdrop balanced DAC using the optical input for both. My source was the same for both. Honestly people, the technology is getting cheaper and better. As much as I wanted to keep the Burson and RME I just can't justify paying $2500 vs Less than $400 for the SMSL and Balanced DAC as long as you are using a decent source signal rather than just your phone. I was using a Denon DNP-800NE network player (using HEOS on my phone for the play list) switching the optical out to both setups. If a 10% increase in musical clarity is important enough for you to spend six times the money, then the Burson/RME is a nice setup but I'm returning mine in favor of extra cash. I am going to experiment with source gear such as the new Bluesound N130 to see if it makes a difference over the Denon.

They cheat as the 4W/8W are into 16ohms. So 2W/4W into 32ohm respectively. Still very powerful. On the other hand you should try power amp mode (pressing menu button for 12 seconds). This will bypass the amps volume stage leading to a more powerful/cleaner/dynamic sound. Make sure, you lower the volume on your DAC first. (You need a DAC with volume control for this mode.) BTW Burson is from Australia, not USA.

it was measured way more than that. someone on head-fi measured the non-balanced output at 15W per channel at 30 ohms. Controversial opinion: I demo'd it and I did't think it was great and especially on my LCD2f. Trust your own ears folks. I much much preferred the Violectric V200. It's not that the Burson is awful, but depending on your taste in music a different amp can pair with a DAC just that much better. The volume also takes a huge step from 52 to 53 or thereabouts. I'm not sure if the store maybe had some different op-amps in there, but I'm pretty sure they just demo the units stock.

Had my Burson Playmate with the V6 Vivid opamps for 2 years now and I love it. Just wish the little fucker wouldn't get this hot. I actually use the mic in as well (600 ohm MMX 300).

Not only this Burson Amp, but also their Conductor 3x Reference DAC, that I've been using, with V6 vivid dual OP amps and Sparkos 3602 dual Op amps. The sound is beyond amazing _(compared to Lumin T2, Mytek, RME & Naim, tested in my system)_ possibly hitting the $20,000 mark _(though I've not tested that price range in my system, only auditioned it - Dave & Mola Mola elsewhere)_ I don't think I'll ever be changing (DACs) to anything else.

This, or the Schiit Ragnanok 2?
@mclement052164
@mclement052164 2 жыл бұрын
Darn good question! But those 2 amplifiers are VERY different from each other. I would think that the RAG is a speaker amp 1st and a HP amp 2nd. Ragnarok puts out a F!ton of power out for headphones, can drive ANYTHING except electrostatics, and is also a speaker amp. The Burson isn't nearly as powerful as the monster Ragnarok. BUT, its only a HP amp, is a lot smaller, and is true class A, AND can drive Hifiman HE6SE and Arya. IN CLASS A. So, if your application is HP only, I rec Soloist 3x, which is what I did with ZERO regrets.

So glad you gave a shout out to M0N as he’s the fucking man! This dude is the single best poster and mod on any audio forum I’ve been to. He’s literally answered 100 of my questions and been right every time. His TOTL shootout thread is tits. Apologies for the many offensive comment s he’s had to block of my in the humor thread but god those guys are either nerds or Christians in there. Yes I’m the guy with the dark morbid humor posts.

This guy does NOT know what he's talking about as far as the opamps. The discrete opamps are an integral part of the amplifier stages. If he changed out the opamps to IC types he'd get a slightly different (and poorer) SQ presentation, having a less realistic timbre, less stage width/depth, and less textures. Those Vivids are super transparent and textured.
