Finally this vid comes out. Honestly I like the recent weapon review videos a lot better than the old ones that said either "Don't use this weapon ever" with an ✖, "maybe use this weapon" with a ? or "Always use this weapon" with a ✔. Reason being is that these ones are saying "I reccomend this weapon for these types of players/situations" and "the gun is great for these types of situations but horrible in those types of situations"

I don't think you watched the entire video... I really like the burst rifle. I really like most of the guns in the game actually (frontier rifle, tactical shotgun, burst pistol, enforcer, hunting rifle, full auto, burst rifle, specter, and semi auto). I just happen to think that, considering its 0 Loadout points, the revolver is arguably one of the best in the game.

I agree completely. And of course this game caters to a different variety of gameplay preferences. However a lot of the reviews on the rapid firing weapons seem to me in my opinion completely opposite to what my conclusions and what many players online see the weapons as. But i do respect greatly all the videos you post, i watch all of them to the end.

The best strategy if you're good enough (I'm not there yet) is to solely go for headshots. If you can land 2 out of a burst or even all three, you can down an enemy in one burt making it one of the quickest killing guns in the game. Sharpshooter is essential for this not just for the health benefit but also making sure you you'd go off target, as obviously flinching too much will make your gun go above the hear and then the recoil will just hurt you even more.

I really liked the cinematic playtrough!!! It was amazing!!! And you should always put calm soundtracks (like The Choice) in calm moments, but in that exact tone that it's not too loud or low, and it just gives that "Ahhhh" feel :)

The Burst Rifle is my favorite weapon in the game. I do well without it upgraded, but I quickly try and get its second upgrade as soon as possible. It's the only weapon in my opinion that really changes in its final upgrade. The recoil is almost non-existent, and the bursts are really close together. It only downs in five shots, and there are three per burst. So you down and even execute a guy in two bursts. There are five bursts total in the clip so you have the ability to take on multiple people with this gun, unlike a lot of others. I just find it effective because I can count how many bursts I've let into a guy and therefore can deem how many more are left before he is down. For those who think it's not good at long range, use its recoil against your opponent. I aim at the stomach at long range and I end up getting a headshot most of the time with the third shot in the burst. One more hitmarker after that and he's down. SImple. Burst rifle seriously is like a purchasable weapon that you keep upon its second upgrade.

I love this weapon. Also the scoped version. Once (both) are fully upgraded, it becomes monsters IF you know how to use them. Aiming at the head is essential in this games but this weapons can really destroy people with a single burst. Thanks for the video.

1) No, the Burst Rifle isn't much more reliable now than it was pre-patch. There were no big changes. We were just wrong about it. It is the most skillful gun - its recoil makes it feel impossible to use if you can't handle it - so it was only natural that, in the beginning, most people would avoid it until some players mastered it and uncovered its true potential. Now it'll only get more and more popular. 2) You can't just equip Sharpshooter 3 and go "Whee! Now I'm more likely to win firefights!" and then proceed to play exactly as if you would play without it. It makes you more likely to win firefights, so go get into more firefights! This sounds like really dumb advice, and it probably is, but the thing is, this perk can give you a really huge advantage in certain circumstances; you have to learn to recognize the moments when it can help you, and act on it. 3) It baffles me that you say Scavenger is a no-brainer to pair with the Burst Rifle. I will never understand people who say that this gun's ammo is scarce. One of my friends recently started using this weapon, and a few days ago he noted that the Burst has seemingly infinite ammo. I've always felt the same thing too. I hate to sound like that guy who says he's so much better than everybody else around here, but this really puzzles me. If you run out of ammo with this gun often, you suck with it. 4) I've seen you handle the Burst's recoil perfectly a few times in the video, but it looks like you still instinctively aim at the lower parts of the targets' bodies so that the rest of the burst will hit their upper parts. That's bad. You need to aim at your actual target (either the target's mass center or his head, depending on the situation) and be confident that you will be able to handle the recoil so that the next shots land in the same place.

The burst rifle is my kind of gun! ^^ I was also reluctant at first, but a friend showed me how to use it and now it's my absolute favourite weapon. I actually kinda like the recoil because it's what makes the headshots so easy. Start at the chest (large mark) to get to the head.

I like the burst rifle a fair bit but personally I find the full auto to fit my playstyle more and when I make a choice between the two I generally pick the full auto. Still great reevaluation and I can't wait for your machete and flamethrower reevaluations (my second favorite and first favorite purchasables respectively. BATHE IN FLAME!!!)

Without the scope this is the best gun in the game. One well-placed burst can knock an enemy down and a quick secondary shotty execution can finish the job; I just HATE finding myself in a close quarters fight with a scope attachment on the weapon. Until I can actually unlock the scopeless variant (I just started the multiplayer so I didn't get far) I am just going to use the equally powerful Tactical Shotgun,

The reduced damage wobble on this gun cannot be overstated. It's got a very fast time to kill if you don't miss, but a very slow TTK if you miss. If you don't have sharpshooter and you get into a firefight where the other guy shoots you while you're unloading your burst, then say goodbye to a reasonable TTK. Also: the 9mm is probably the best pistol to go with the burst rifle due to the identical damage profiles. Say you shoot one burst at a dude and all three are body shots, and now you're out of burst rifle ammo. He now has two bars of health left. At this stage, he will be downed by two shots from an enforcer, 9mm, or revolver. The 9mm, which doesn't cost LP and has a faster fire rate than the revolver, becomes the clear choice.

I have killed entire teams with the burst rifle thanks to landing head shots with sharpshooter 3 on and getting my health back. Here is a tip for landing head shots : aim above the head and drag down. Especially at a range this is effective. At close range, point directly at the head. Thanks for re-reviewing the gun and realizing how powerful it is!

Hi Grant, I'll start off by saying enjoy your videos. Got my PS4 in December and have been unable to put down TLOU (didn't own a PS3, so... big learning curve is finally behind me). The burst rifle is the weapon that turned me from average to forceful in no-party. Paired with the revolver, a fully-upgraded burst rifle is almost unstoppable 1v1. Here's my awesome part-collecting covert/shiv/burst loadout: Revolver Burst Rifle Covert 3 Executioner 2 Lone Wolf 2 To get the ball rolling, a single lone wolf shiv or special execution will earn 300-400 parts, allowing the first burst upgrade. Two more kills and I'm fully upgraded, and a 4th kill and I'm armored up. I usually don't bother with the revolver upgrade, but if I have the parts, boy oh boy, this is a ridiculous loadout. Unmarkable so you don't die often. Loud weapons invite opponents to your location where you can massacre them. I highly recommend you try this if you haven't already!!!

Brian P Oh, and to avoid the 'wasting bullets' problem before the first upgrade, I'll typically use the revolver for mid-to-long range and then burst if anyone tries to rush me. As you are obviously very good/comfortable with the revolver, it's a good idea to position yourself to kill as much as possible with it anyway.

I was in a party and got stick for using semi and shotgun so they challenged me to use the burst as they were using it at first hard to master but when I got used to it it wasn't to bad and they rage quit when I was getting upper hand point being your analogy is spot on good weapon if you can get the hits and fully upgrade this weapon but be prepared for people not being happy and still complaining about what weapon you use no pleasing some people lol

My main gun is the scoped burst rifle. I really like it, mainly because my play style is a medic loadouy so i tend to get tons of parts, so fully upgrading the gun comes pretty quickly, but also due to the fact i hang back behind cover waiting for allies to be downed or injured i tend to keep my ammo count pretty high and then i can run in and take an enemy out in close quarters or even in medium to long range because of the scope.

My current HR class is. HR w/ silencer, Revolver and perks are CT2, HawkEyed 2 and FAT1. I used to have SS3 but once you are good zooming fast and shooting there isn't much point on having it. If you play on PS4 I could teach you but lately mp has been full of bullshit like the matchmaking

I love the burst rifle due to its fast down time. The Loadout i use is collector 2, ss2, and fat1. Normally, I get around 2k parts mid game because I like to stick with my team and land headshots on snipers and enemies trying to revive. People say that the BR sucks long range, but if you've learned to control its recoil, you'll be getting headshot spray downs from across the map.

I want you to see a video that I will upload later to show you how good burst rifle +sharpshooter is I went up against 7 guys I don't know if they had strategist but after taking out 4 all by myself the rest just kept on coming and sharpshooter is what saved me, match ended 19-1. Accuracy is what actually saved me without it it makes no sense.

Using SS3 + Scavenger 2/3 is mostly used for rusher/aggressive players and possible teamwipers but it takes skill to get to that toplevel though. Not my cup of tea, i use this with my executioner loadout: Silenced 9mm Burst Rifle Covert Training 2 Executioner 3 Lone Wolf 1 Silenced burst not needed because good players know where it comes from, and 9mm can tap it out quickly from midrange for 1lp. Get the shivs, get mad parts and i know it's situational but lone wolf can get you SS for 2lp. Or use Agility to bail/dodge which is a great perk. Tip, it's not that great on long range map with a lot of open areas from my experience. :) p.s. old reddit loadout challenge before the buffs: The Honeybadger 9mm BR SS2 Brawler 2 Machete (this was 4lp)

Old video but definitely doesnt need scavenger. You get 6 bullets without it. That's 2 downs potentially. With a good team you can go a long time just off scavenging bullets even without getting ammo from boxes.

Grant i don't want to sound like an idiot but i disagree on your thought that this weapon is not "reliable & versatile" if you are good with this weapon and land an entire burst in an enemy's face you can down & execute them without them even realizing what happened especially the fact that this weapon throws enemy's aim all over the place especially hunting,Frontier rifle or bow,But if you can not get head shots then this weapon is not AS reliable as semi auto I agree but a skilled player can get headshots easily but nice review as usual! :)

from 6 minutes footage, i can count the headshots on my hand, that's were the problem is. pair it with SS3 and some aiming skills and you have the most powerful, destructive gun in the game, you just dont know how to use it and lets be honest, you're far from a good player, that's why this review is extremely biased and focused on bad/new players

I kind of like it how Grant isn't the best player though. He gives more grounded reviews of weapons compared to someone like nick eh 30 who knows every little detail. Coming from a level 700 I use the BR with SS3( because duh) but when focusing on that you can't use it in any other way. I have never gone support with the BR but after re-watching I might try it out. It's just refreshing watching these reviews than the pro videos that are around today.

Lomas 188 i completely disagree. A review should always be as objective as possible. And level 700 doesn't mean everything, i've come across level 999's who just plain suck

Honestly, how much more objective can you get than an average player doing well or not well with a gun? Pros can do good with absolutely ANYTHING including the Flamethrower so they're more likely to say everything's good when there are things that may not be so good. Reviews focused on average players are the most objective you can get because they don't mislead new/average players into thinking that every single gun is easy to use and kill only to get destroyed when they try to use the Flamethrower and find out that it sucks, (yes I know how to use the Flamethrower, I know how to kill with it and I still say it sucks.)

At first i hated the burst rifle, i couldnt get a kill with it! Then i started to use it with sharpshooter 3 and it was a beast! Now im using it without sharpshooter and i'm being good with it :)
