We have to remember the recorded version couldn't sound so great if its not present in the performer. The recording only captures what's actually happening albeit somewhat "pure" in that there's noting but voice and instruments to tape. If they suck live not much can really make it better and we still call it music.

The story is that he and Randy were in a music store and saw a flute in the window. Burton ended up buying the flute and of all things played it for the first at a concert that evening, not having played the instrument at all before that. Sounds crazy but that is what happened!
