I asked my parents to buy this record for me when it was released. (I used to live in a small village far from record stores) The salesman looked at them and said "I can't believe that people listen to this". My parents were ashamed at that comment and never bought me another album. I'd say to this day that this album is in the top 10 of my collection.

You can't decide if he's a genius or not based on YOUR musical taste. Also, "as a musician he's not very talented"... I'm assuming that you made a reference to the fact that the instruments don't sound good enough or "talented". Isn't that the point of Burzum? Everything is supposed to sound "bad". I feel like you're saying that if he was really talented then there would be more technicality in his songs but that's just not true. His music sounding bad is a belief fueled thing, he's trying to spread a message and express his feelings... What I mean is that he's not bad at the instruments, or maybe he is who knows, but we can't decide that from the sound of his music since making it sound weird was the intention.

1996 - 14 years old, one of the first cassettes that I bought, it was recorded with ABSU Barathrum Vitriol.... those times when mom and dad gave me coins to snacks to the school and I saved them to these masterpieces and the only Metal magazine in black and white (always 1000 copies in my country).

At least you were spending those few coins with really great music! I remember myself that I was doing just the same thing as you as a kid! but back in the seventies! just to get me some of the "KISS" albums! that were around then! just because at that time I really thought that there really wasn't any other better music around! but it's still good to see how at least some few things in the world have changed! for good! and even for much better! fortunately! now that I'm around 60!👍

Coming to this music after a lifetime of rock and metal, but never hearing this. Amazingly, it still sounds as if it could have been recorded yesterday. Could be a brand-new release, rather than one of the originals. There's definitely something special and magical here. Only the really good stuff ages like this.

The rumor I heard is that Varg actually lit his hair on fire and doused himself with kerosene before each verse, which he sang outside beneath a rain-water catch shower to extinguish himself before he succumbed to the flames, but he never checked the level of water before beginning the process just to make sure he had his edge on.
