I would pull the carpet off the walls along with the substrate to make sure there were no window leaks that damaged metal framing of the bus. Plus it is a good time to put in some insulation board. Most of it will be covered up later by cabinets etc. Get a larger fridge (not 3 way>>go with compressor). You'll love it. Those dorm size are too small for anything other than sodas. You'll need space for your cookout meat and other fixings. Get a convection microwave oven and a couple of portable induction burners that you can store in a drawer when not cooking. Don't need propane stove. Consider a diesel heater with duct for chilly nights. You have enough space for a shower so it's worth doing.

Semi truck driver here. Bus tires may be different, but as far as I am aware, most commercial tires are only rated to 75 mph. I know that you can set these vehicles to a max cruise speed and a different max pedal speed. A cruise limit of 75 with a pedal limit of 80 for passing should keep you relatively safe

Hello there..... Speaking of the cassette toilet, put it the other way around so you can change it from the outside of the bus. The ventilation from the cassette needs to be outwards, otherwise you will get an unpleasant smell inside. Love your build and your channel.
@ozarkliving7263

Agree 100%, I was going to suggest, if nothing else, pre-wire for a future exhaust fan and switch so if/when, all that sloshing of the cassette starts to perfume the coach, you could easily put in an external exhaust. These cassettes are supposed to be zero venting, what you are seeing is the rotatable spout to empty it. That said, in short order, the “ventless” cassette, I own one, will start to leak air.

I have the LAVEO dry flush toilet in my 2021 Embssy RV class B van and LOVE it!! Knowing what I do now, I'd never own a cassette toilet. The LAVEO is so easy to use and is 12v. For your tables, check out the LAGUN mount system that is used in a lot of RV's. Could be a perfect solution for your bus. There are some really good carpet spray paints out there to refresh what you can't remove.

You'll absolutely hate that refrigerator. That design makes absolutely no sense unless you're storing just beverages. Walmart has a Haier brand refrigerator that's two doors (separate freezer compartment that's actually rather spacious). They're about 180 bucks and they simply don't die. Instead of spending 2 to 6 grand on a replacement DC refrigerator for the semi tractors we would buy those as a replacement. Again, outstanding value for the money.

I'd suggest trying to find some size holding tank for black/grey water, and plumb it just like a regular RV with the blade valves. The cassette won't last long if you're boondocking. And if you're not--then your site will probably have sewer onsite, so you can leave your stinky slinky connected. I wonder if you can find a wet bay panel in an RV graveyard somewhere?

If you put 19:06 carpet on vertical surfaces, use carpet that has a flame resistant rating for that use case. Regular carpet for floors will burn too quickly if ignited, making that single exit bus a death trap.

Just one suggestion, Wizard, on the bed frames: I'd put a couple of diagonal side-to-side braces on the bottom of each of those frames to reduce the possibility of lateral movement (like you can get when sitting on or getting up off the bed or if you toss and turn).

something to consider at the couch/sofa location - put the access under the seating cushion and not from door fronts, it's an options that I like in my RV for some items, anything heavy cannot slide out like soda, beer, soup cans and an easy access from the top with a large opening

You mentioned getting a car to tow. I did a lot of research and settled on a 2015 Honda Fit with a six speed manual transmission. It’s light, cheap, has a hatchback to carry stuff in and is generally a very reliable car that tows really well. I installed the Blue Ox tow system myself, so that’s an easy enough job.

Nice update! Looking forward to you both making more progress on thius interesting project! My only thought on the design: a shower is an essential of modern living. Get rid of the storage forward of the toilet, and when on the road put easily removeable ietms (that will probably be wet anyway, like coats or water drums etc) in the extended bathroom. You will not regret that compromise - Good Luck!

I used to work on Thermo Kings on early metro busses. Great units and so glad yours is belt driven. The busses has slave drive shafts that worked off of the Diesel engine and would shake off of their miss engineered mounts and the shaft would beat the daylights out of them. I worked on those at a retrofit outfit and had a crew that fixed 18 separate retrofit operations on these Metro busses. Was a crew chief and had a great time there.

For that front storage, I feel like you thought about it, but it really seems that top access instead of side access might be better. Given the shape, things are going to want to fall out, if you make it top accessed, then they will stay in no matter what, can just have some struts to keep the "hood" open when you check on things, can divide it up inside for more order. If not that, then maybe not a top-hinged side access but a bottom hinged instead. Good luck with your project!

For those who don't know, rerating heavy diesel engines is a common and easy thing to do. Any big diesel engines, like those in buses, semi trucks, dump trucks, tractors & harvesters, and construction equipment can have engine power increased, speed governor / limiter removed, RPM limit set, engine brake / Jake brake enabled or disabled and engagement speed set, all by just hooking up a computer and running that engine's software. I just had a full rebuild done on my 2007 International 9400i with a Cat C-15 engine. Right after that I went to a Cat dealer for a rerate. Stock was 435hp and 1550 ft/lbs of torque. I had them rerate it to 550hp and 1850 ft/lbs of torque. They actually had me sign a liability waiver because my 10-speed manual is not rated for that much torque. So far the transmission is holding.

I'm sure you're getting loads of comments about the layout - sorry to be another one but I've used caravans for 20+ years. I'd swap the sofa to the other side - partly because it means you're sort of opposite your eating seats - so if you have visitors you're better placed to talk to them. Mostly though, you'll park with the door facing the good view, and at the moment your not facing that way. I suspect there are many reasons why this wouldn't work, but it would be my preferred layout.

Also it could be another bed system? Include work stations for computer in the other seating areas . Will you have an emergency exit up front ?something to consider 🤗 Just wondering with the walls and cabinets, will you have steel frame structure, nothing worse than rattling down the highway, because things are moving about . After watching RV owners riding inside their RVs while someone drives them down the road ,the amount of shaking and rattling is huge . Only suggestions Also check out the RV community for Bed Mattress recommended brands ,they make a big difference to sleep comfort Will be good seeing you build the bus up , interesting to see the Wizard thinking on electrical and solar etc .

I noticed that the bus walls behind some of the built-ins curves. For the bathroom cabinet, have you considered building the cabinet up square from the floor, leaving a gap between it and the window so as to not mess with the window? It would also let in more light. For privacy is there some kind of frosted vinyl stick on to cover that window?

Awesome update on the bus! Great improvements with the programming …. And very well thought out and layed out floor plan.. it really cuts what seems like a huge job down when you slice the sections and lay it out. The only thing I see different is those front wheel wells seem like a missed opportunity to do something cool…. With the different heights I think I’d like to see maybe working in maybe the battery bank and inverter system etc on one and a under counter microwave or something on the other …. Maybe even keep one open and use it’s shape and slope to your advantage as a design feature… I don’t know… just being the transition between driving and living space I would try and do something really cool and creative

Should be able to check the transmission fluid with engine running, transmission in park and push both up and down arrows at the same time and maybe check oil life ... A 2018 Mack I used to drive had the Allison 7 speed auto transmission but it would go through transmission filters unlike the 6 speed which I never had an issue. The 7 speed allowed the engine revs to be at a much lower rpm than the 6 speed though

You can jack the bus up…in a sense. Put in a subfloor! Fixes a lot of layout issues with the wheel weels, plumbing, and you can delete the cassette toilet. Which you will wish you did as soon as you empty it.

I’ve always wanted to build a bus into a little mobile home. I’ve been doing remodeling and construction with my dad for years now and doing it yourself sounds like so much fun and easier in the long run to own.

I drive city bus, I love what you guys are doing with this one. I’ve always tried to envision what I would do if I could get a hold of one and do something like this also. If anyone is interested in buying a bus my agency is auctioning off most of their 2003 Gilligs, one of which has a patriotic theme hand painted on it. Numbered 1776, would make a cool conversation piece at the local RV park or truck stop. I know someone from Wichita bought two of them already to be party buses. Should make for a fun road trip from Washington State.

The Futon base was brilliant! The thing that always comes to mind when ever I see "the bus" is, what are you going to do about the massive windows? Interior curtains? Some one way silver coating? Very curious about this. Thanks, and Happy New Year!

An 8D battery from CAT weighs 134#. I have hoisted a few of them in my day. It looks like that tray might have room for two 4D batteries for extra capacity. They only weigh about 105# each.

I had never noticed the Bridgeport before. It's always nice to have one of those around. Does it work? Good progress on the bus.

Did the higher power option from the factory come with a different torque converter in the transmission? If yes, then you may be exceeding the turbine torque rating of your transmission with the current converter. Manufacturers sometimes lock out 6th gear because the vehicle driveline can't handle the higher driveline speeds. Hopefully your bus is not such a vehicle, as it would be a bit of a downer to spit out a drive shaft on the highway.

Try an upholstery steamer on that wall carpet. Less than $50, often $25 for a day. And if you from Ace Hardware on Saturday, they're closed on Sunday so "one day" lasts until Monday!

Hey Wizard remember the old saying? ´Just because you can doesn't mean you should. I´ll give it 3 months after its done than you say.. ´The Bus is gone´.

I love your show. Gets lots of good information. I have a 95 GMC extended cab 3/4 ton 4x4 350 V-8. 108000 miles. I wonder if you have worked on these trucks. I love my truck! Also I pull a 12'000 lb horses trailer. How can I better car for my truck. The problems and possible good things. That would a great show.. Thanks so much.

Kind of jumping ahead here but you should get a pull down curtain for the windshield like what Scania uses for their cabovers across the pond in europe

I have ridden in many of these to the car rental yard and the short wheel base makes them a bucking bronco. Curious to see how this handles on the highway.
