You are so right about chosing our own basic hues. I used to love black and wear a lot of it, but I eventually realized it washes me out - I look really sick if I wear black anywhere near my face. So I still get black bottoms, but when it comes to tops I switched to navy, and it was a game changer (and I found out I look great in navy, a color I had avoided before!).

When I was in kindergarten I needed a smock for painting. all the other kids had their dad's old shirts. My mother took me to a tailor and had made for me a tartan plaid smock with a Peter Pan collar. It's been a life long love and passion of mine. Omg this video was for me today. I have been spending weeks trying on everything from my wardrobe as I never know what to wear and decided to let things go! I have a lot clothes from my teens and some before pregnancy that I will never get to that size again. But this week I decided to let it go. I realised in the past I invested in cheap essentials and also didn’t buy new ones thinking about my new shape and life style. Now the job is to find out what do I like and feel confident on it as you said is personal as spending time on Pinterest don’t bring me the same vibe as people has different shapes and personalities. I love the caveat of 'you also need to love it.' I've spent the last few years collecting basics so I always have the thing to wear 'under' or 'with', and it's possible to find basics that also reflect my personal style. But I do have to say, when I have found a piece that I totally love and is totally 'me,' there is a magic at work such that it works with much of my closet and find ways to wear it all the time, even if it is 'beyond basic.'

Never thought of the closet basics. Totally makes sense. I love clothes shopping and I just realized I’m wasting too much money. GGDB sneakers are awesome. Last weekend I crazily volunteered to take on a 10 hour long Bridal & Prom Consignment pop-up by myself and my feet didn't suffer at all, my hair style was a totally different situation though, lol. I’m a size 14, which is not quite plus size but too large for most “large”size designer clothing. You and I have very different styles yet I always get something out of your videos that I can implement. I'm a bit older than you and I love wearing black with different textures mixed with color here and there - no white for me! I'm pale so no white. Washes me out and I'm grubby so it will get dirty in five seconds. I love second hand clothes but since I moved to a smaller town, it's harder. I have been looking for this! The basics (black, white brown, navy) from my slim brunette days worked brilliantly. Your point that the basics can change for your color scheme is exactly what I needed to hear. My beloved white washes out my fair complexion and silver hair. I can change to another light neutral.

Thank you for this great video! One recent wardrobe issue I've had is after I retired. My last position required formal business attire. Most of my basics are work clothes. I have a hard time finding basics in the right style and size, so I have not replaced many old pieces. I am over 65 and love black, but noticed that black tops emphasize shadows, etc. A white top looks much better. Jewelry helps brighten the look of a dark/subdued color around my face. : )

Great video! I usually use navy as black. White is ok, but I love winter white which is a little hard to find. I don't wear jeans but leggings or cross leggings/pants; linen pants for summer are my go-to and I took all your tips and will think of the rest. Being a curvy inverted triangle (broad shoulders, big bust), I'm thinking of switching white button-down for the navy, but I need more color close to my face, so I need to try some and see what works. I know there are loads of "capsule wardrobe" videos, but they are usually so restrictive with words, that I can't listen to them and you said it so well that it's ok to take other colors into consideration. Of course, I can do it by listening to other videos as well, but it's like when you buy a piece that is designed better. If you know what I mean. Thank you!
