One hundred percent agree on the list. I’m 64 and I have gotten rid of nearly all my costume jewelry. If I’m going out it’s generally gold hoops, pearls (and I inherited a pair of black pearls including necklace which are stunning) or diamond studs. And I wear these out with friends, to concerts with jeans just about anywhere. After all these years of being afraid to wear them I now love them! (And I do like Monica Vinador)

Basic, timeless pieces are always a good idea. However, one can find quality items for less than $100 or even $50 that will hold up for years. I have never purchased an item of clothing over $100. And I’ve had items that are older than my son who is turning 17 next week. You don’t have to spend a lot, but you do need to look at how it’s made.

Great topic, thank you a lot. I will always choose quality over quantity. But I'm a big fan of mid range brands and would never consider to buy anything designer because in my opinion the prices are way to high compared to the quality you get. Of course a Chanel bag is (hopefully) better made than a Walmart bag, but you can get the same excellent material and craftsmanship from bags that cost for example 500 dollars/ euros. I for example own a bag from a Danish Brand called Adax. It's excellent leather and handmade in Italy.

Right on spot, if I'd kept all the money I've wasted when I was younger into fancy jewels that either broke down after a few weeks, or looked lacklustre very quickly... As we say here in France : "Si jeunesse savait..." "If youth knew..." Whereas still wearing my 16th annviersary pearl necklace mixed to some gold necklaces, looks modern and fresh. Same goes for trendy bags that didn't withstand tear and wear and again the genuine classic purses are still ok and will for ever, with help of the occasional visit to the cobbler. They don't only do shoes but can maintain bags as well.

Only recently have I been realizing it’s ok to invest in quality pieces that last, rather than get cheap pieces. It’s taken me awhile to accept this because I’m not a big spender by nature. By the way, on fabric of sneakers, Thousand Fell and many other leather-ish shoes are easy to wipe, but Vivaia has a machine washable white. I purchased a pair and washed twice now and they're great. BUT they run about a size big. The laces have stretch which is fun too. You may want to try them. Great customer service company. : )

How do you keep your white sneakers white?!?! I just bought a pair of white Nikes and have no idea how to clean them. I did a Google search on it but I am hesitant to use the tips I read about. I can't even say how much costume jewelry I have. Jewelry boxes full. Big statement necklaces etc. Lots of color and big dangling earrings. Lots of cheap colorful scarves and shoes I've never worn. So much excess. Nothing in my closet would be considered good quality. That was my fashion style for 60 years. Quantity over quality. In the past year or so, I've been trying to find my new style and can have a closet where everything fits me and I love. Now retired. 62. Menopausal weight gain. Living in Florida so its hot. A big change from my life in Maine. No longer working in a law firm and dressing up every day. I find myself gravitating to videos like this with classics and scaled down wardrobes and capsule wardrobes which was totally not me lol. It's going to take awhile but I'm going to begin the process of buying quality basics and reinventing me for life now in my 60s. I can't give up color but definitely need to focus on quality instead of fast fashion. And no more polyester! 😅 Really need to buy cotton and linen and silk living here. I've got alot of work to do! Love your videos :)

Have the aviators, white tennis shoes...I have a huge issue with finding the white button ups and blazers that fit...I have really broad shoulders and thick upper arms and chest...so every jacket I try on It's too tight on back n arms..even when I try on overly large jackets.

Always always check the materials even with designer brands. Just because it’s expensive doesn’t mean it’s made with real leather etc. There are videos from Tanner man on YT where he buys designers bags and tips them apart to see what they are really worth. A lot aren’t the high end materials one would think!

Thank you for the video. Holy smoke Erin, you still have deep snow outside? I know you live in Colorado, but I thought by May you would start to see the grass. And here I am complaining about our rainy cold May days in Massachusetts. I have all those pieces in my wardrobe, I know how you feel about the cheaper jewelry we all purchased back in the day. Of course, so much of it has tarnished and needed to be discarded. I just purchased a black blazer to replace a beautiful but very old Ann Taylor blazer from years ago. I tried on so many black blazers last weekend at the mall and just couldn't decide. Nothing really looked good on me. I finally purchased a plain black Express Blazer that looked pretty good. But I loved the Zara blazer that looked like a Balmain blazer. My husband just didn't like it, so I didn't buy it. But I am still thinking of that blazer as we speak.... I may just go back and get it, if it is still there when I go back to Zara. Also, just want to say, I am thinking of you today. It looks like you might have had a very trying/emotional day prior to filming. Hang in there.

Sunglasses can be paired with anything, and earrings too - if you feel like it's too much, opt for a smaller earring with your hat! Hi Erin, now that fall is getting closer can you do a video about how to wear booties (like chelsea boots) with the straight or wider leg jeans/trousers that are in style now a days? I can wear them with sandals but I'm lost as to how to wear them with ankle boots... Which inseam length is best, etc I'm so used to skinny jeans... Having a hard time letting go especially in the cooler months because of the above reason. And I feel that with wider leg there's a gap between the pants and my legs where the brutal MN cold wind gets in and freezes me. This doesn't happen with skinny pants. So I take warmth over style. I need guidance on how to use these wider pants. Thank you so much!😊

I totally get it! Honestly, you DO still need your skinny jeans for some boots. It's practical, easy to wear, and they just work best sometimes. The most flattering belt is about an inch to an inch and a quarter! Matching your belt to your handback or shoe does help to pull together a look, but it's not always necessary. Sometimes it may feel better to just coordinate rather than match exactly. With a dress, you can wear a belt up at your natural waist, at the waist of a skirt, or at the waist of your jeans/pants. And the one I purchased on Etsy that was supposed to be real gold... it's been silver for years so I just wore it out until it broke. Feeling deflated.
