Yes! I remember that ride from when I went to the park in 1989 and 1991. I don't remember it being there when we went back in 1994.

They need to make it more like this again. Embrace tradition, reject modernity. The old world style carnival games are so cool. Like the catapult into the bucket!

So glad you posted this. I'm sad to see what they've done to the place. Been going since the 70s and this is the Busch Gardens I remember. I would have been about the age of this kids in this. Threadneedle Faire, the shooting gallery, a magic shop that actually felt magical, the LeMans, an actual band in the Festhaus still, the Big Bad Wolf, the petting zoo... so much of this stuff is gone now. And the crowds are so bad it's difficult to even enjoy what's left.

I agree so much! I miss it

Their only real problem is they now only try to appeal to the roller coaster fanatics so the park has been overrun and there's barely any areas without one blasting past every 10 seconds.

this is SO cool to see. we used to go to Busch Gardens almost every weekend back in the 80s. I think season tickets were like $15 apiece back then. This is the only footage I've been able to find of it anywhere on the Internet of The Black Spider! I always loved that ride. never understood why they removed it. this is great footage❤

Interesting that the music playing at 0:58 , "Water Music" by Handel is one of my favorites! I went to BG Tampa many times living in Ruskin FL in the 80's. Thanks for posting.

Been looking everywhere trying to find vid of Gladiator’s Gauntlet! This ride used to scare the heck out of me when I was younger! Great vid.

I worked there for 4 years. One summer, I worked in Threadneedle Faire. The Twizzel Fwap (AKA nut buster) was easy when you moved across quickly and jumping sideways. I know, because I did it daily in a long dress. The last few years I worked in the zoo (where I met my now husband). I loved the goats; they devoured little kids daily. So much fun 😂

At the 13:43, probably some of the only great footage in existence of the Gladiators Gauntlet Ride. You got some excellent video of the black Octopus/Spider ride too, I just can't remember it's name. It was over by the swings, that much I do remember.

nerdydaddyo agreed. This ride was impressive to watch but I can’t remember it being at all thrilling. Fortunate to have that footage here.

13:44 Gladiator's Gauntlet one of my favorite rides. You could always hear it approaching from the parking lot. What were they thinking taking one out?

This is so great! I was born in ‘88 and my family started going to Williamsburg every summer around this time. I still love it there! I also wish it were still the way it was in the 90’s. It’s too commercial now. Theming isn’t as special as it used to be. Music is pop, instead of themed to the countries. Merchandise is bland and generic like six flags.

Just so you know ahead of time, this comment is nothing more than friendly banter. Please do not get offended, for I am not being serious at all. Oh my gosh! Your wife and older son rode Gladiator's Gauntlet? How often do you and RyGuy visit them at the insane asylum?
