It's really starting to sound like mostly bus shops these days are into more of just service related maintenance than heavy repair. Change oil, filters, belts, hoses, etc. and send 'er on down the road. Vintage bus owners that make it Bus Grease Mountain are the fortunate ones.

They aren't mechanics anymore, they are technicians who can only replace the parts the computer says are faulty. See it everywhere now even dealerships and mechanical shops. I heard one shop owner say an all wheel drive van doesn't have wheel bearings. WTF!!

Always joking around and having a good time with plenty of laughs. I miss those days and those friends that are gone. Yes sir, I bet they're using them muffler bearings now. No wonder a lot of this overpriced stuff now day's is nothing more than a mere polished turd. I hang onto my money. For me it's either old stuff or no stuff.

Bad Diagnosis reminds me of where I'm employed at this time. Just getting my time in until I can retire. "New" buses 2021with less than 15,000 miles with air leaks that cause the the low air buzzer come on at idle. Good Job Blue Bird! Also the AC quit at 5000 miles.

Thus where some very serious issues that got fixed. Thanks to Scott the bus is safe to use and not a danger house on the road. My understanding is the modern day shops don't wanna deal with very complicated and heavy maintenance works so they just swipe things under the carpet. In a way I can understand it but then again you let a unsafe thing out from the shop to the road. There is a million things that can go wrong later, not to mention law suits that might come in. But I guess no one ever thinks of that.

When I worked in the airlines, I learned that “maintenance” means perfect, factory reliability and performance! Nothing less! This is why people feel like they need new vehicles… most mechanics can’t get the job done right! But a few can!

It's kinda difficult for me to admit this, being a retired truck driver, but most, not all, but most shops, dealerships and elsewhere won't pay the mechanics enough therefore some of them don't give a hoot or simply don't have proper training and the owners of these businesses don't seem to understand the problem and also won't admit their own business suffers due to their own lack of understanding and knowledge. As I said I hate to admit this but the lack of quality P. M. and 💩ity so-called repairs it's actually a good thing for a quality DOT Officer to pull heavy duty vehicles around back or over for an honest good inspection. I've seen this mess and actually at one time worked for an outfit that wouldn't, or couldn't do either a good complete repair and sometimes was actually very dangerous. "And" of course to top it, there's the horrendous bill you get for the crap job. As you know it's horrible. I've also found over the years it's become more difficult to find a good contractor to perform quality work for "anything". You are truly a blessing. Thank you Scott for being a "real" man. You, wife, son and security, can't leave out the puppy dog, "Bus Grease Monkey" y'all rock!

Modern day repair shops are Not in the restoration business im sure. They arent going to go through old stuff. However they should tell people that when they roll in there with an old bus with many many issues, just send em down the line.

Its either: 1. The shop doesn’t think an owner with an old bus can afford the repairs. 2. They think the bus is junk and don’t want to touch it. 3. Do bare minimum and replace a part just to get it on the way. I’m curious, the owner complained and they said they couldn’t find anything wrong??

These buses seem specialized enough that most shops can't or won't do the work that's required to make them safe. Perhaps a small group of self-policing independent repair shops can refer customers to one another depending on the bus's location. Sometimes customers may be just too far away from Bus Grease Monkey !

In my opinion, most converted bus/RV’s are sold for too much money. The price should reflect that minimum of $10-15,000 in repairs will be needed to put it safely on the road. Engine and transmission problems can easily add another $20,000. They can be excellent RV’s once brought up to snuff.

Main problem he took it to a dealership and they generally don’t want anything to do with Older Coaches! They don’t want them on the lot and sure as hell don’t want to work on them! I’m a proud owner of a 95’ Monaco Dynasty and it will Never go to an RV dealership for anything! Truck shops or my own shop, and maybe some day down to the BGM shoppe!

Making cars requires heavy industry, steel and plastics production.
