Uncooperative weather continues to test Greg and Fowler’s mental mettle, but they manage to catch and cook more big trout, as the two hope for blue skies in the second half of the challenge. Greg keeps upgrading his bushcraft rod and forages more edible plants, stockpiling them for the move into the deeper woods.
There's only one rule for the 30 Day Survival Challenge: If you want to eat, you got to Catch and Cook it.
Greg is a self-taught survivalist from Canal Flats, British Colombia, who, since he was a boy, has read nearly every book on the topic. When he is not out in the wilderness, he is a professional dry-waller. He started his first bow drill fire when he was thirteen and spent the next forty years learning bushcraft and studying plants and edibles. He has even developed some of his own survival techniques and is a skilled hunter with both a bow and a slingshot.

I also love it when Greg shows wild edibles. Here my funny experience. I am really in to mushrooms. We have about 40 acres of woods and I know 2 or 3 kinds that are edible. This fall I went back with the hubby to track a deer. We have a creek that runs thru our property in the spring and fall that has about 10 feet of much one either side. As I'm walking I see this one very large mushroom on the other side of the creek. I'm sure it had a sign on it saying come and get me!! Well I found a downed tree that got me across the muck and creek. I still had about 10 feet of muck in front of me to get to the mushroom. I had my hunting boots on so said ok lets get it. Started walking across the muck and was only sinking in a couple of inches, made it ok and got the mushroom. Decided to take a short cut to get back. Bad mistake!! I stepped in one spot and the muck came right to the top of my boots. Not knowing my boot was stuck, when I made the next step, the boot stayed where it was and the liner came partially out sending me face first, flat out, into the muck. My first thought "O Shit!!". To get out of this position, (I'm 68 so you dont just get up!!) you have to put your hands down in the muck up to your elbows to push yourself out. One glove is still there!! Then in order to get my boot out I had to put my sock foot into the muck. By this time the smell is gagging me it's so bad. I finally make it out of the muck trap and find the hubby with his deer. I got that "what the hell have you been doing" look. He doesn't want me near him, says I stink!!. Oh, and the mushroom is leaving spores in the muck someplace.

YOU had a far better break than Joe Robinet when he lost his ferro rod and could not find it...and, without fire, he had to tap out. FORTUNATELY, Joe is made of strong enough stuff to have the drive to keep on teaching and filming and adventuring. He and Zach have that in common!

Hello! I'm enjoying watching your 30-day challenge Canadian Rockies - Watched Day 14 - I'm watching every episode. You got some good karma - finding that hook on a forest floor. The colour on these fish is spectacular.
