Hey Greg, the toggle style hooks work well. I used to catch Bluegill with them as a kid. Unlike all of the other designs, they can't get unhooked because they wedge in the mouth. Just keep the pressure on and pull them straight in quickly. Using the right bait as part of the design is important, like a nightcrawler that slides up and keeps the line straight and the tip sticking out. You can even feed a small strong bone toggle hook through a nightcrawler to the tail area so its like a worm with a barbed tail and your worm stays on the string to save bait. The best part is the simple skinny easy to swallow profile, and it doesn't even need to be very sharp to get wedged in. Also unlike J hooks that have to be set in, there is no way for the fish to unhook it. Definitely worth mastering the toggle hook especially since you can get very small fish with it to use for fish or trap bait. Thank you for the videos and keep them coming. All the best!

already have caught a 30# Blue Cat off of these (going to try to get a 60#+ next year). kzbin.infoUgkxzXmlErSqVAEGWFEKO530BvTqFDw53QW3 Definitely very strong, and sharp. Additionally, the gap is wide enough to actually hook a fish (not always the case with circle hooks). I purchased the 8/0, but probably should have got the 9/0 (they seem slightly smaller than other 8/0 hooks). Additionally, having the point in-line helps if you drift fish. I have yet to get a serious snag with one of these hooks.

@@redeyestones3738 oh brother, the beginning of wisdom is fear of the Lord. You see, you probably fear man more and don't even know it, you fear humans or government powers. Fear is another form of respect, and I'm Hebrew the word fear much closer associates to respect of authority rather than fear of like I'm scared of you. God, Jesus, is PURE love, like the literal emotion of love, that's all he is brother, he loves you so much and he created you specifically, he wants to get to know you and live with you in your heart, bring you peace joy and comfort, for all eternity. I've always kept a roll of thick gauge wire in my bag with a leatherman multi-tool to make my own hooks. I cut ½ an inch of wire and twist one end into a loop to tie line onto and bend the hook end the cut the hook tip at an angle to make it sharp, make smaller hooks as they won't bend as easy, I can get probably 1000 hooks from one roll of wire. I also like to use thick guitar picks for makeshift arrowheads.

I'm no expert fisherman, but I do know that fish bite at absolutely anything! When I was a kid, I used to fish a lot and one day me and my friend had lost all of our hooks (there were a lot of rocks in the water where the hooks would get stuck) so we though fishing time was over and my friend tied a stone to his nylon fishing line, slinged the stone far away in the water with his fishing rod and began reeling the line in, surprised that at one point he felt more resistance. When he reached the end of the line, guess what we found there: a big fish had swallowed the stone whole! The stone was big and irregular enough to be able attach it to the line with some (very unprofessional) knotting, it must have been about the size of a wallnut, and with that we caught a fish!!! We never even expected that, we were struck by surprise! Making a lure to make your bait more visible helps of course, but other than that, fish are pretty stupid animals, they only care about the food, doesn't matter if they can see the line or the trap, they will just go for the food! So if I can catch a fish by using a stone instead of a hook, then I can tell you this about hooks: it does not matter at all what material your hooks are made of!!! The only difference that the material does make, is in the long run, the durability of your hooks: soft wood will break easier, and even if it breaks after the 1st use, as long as you could catch at least 1 fish, who cares, you can always make more 😂 Btw: we never tried that again. It was a lucky catch, that's for sure, but if it works once, then it must work more than once too... Ah, and also I hunted lizards as a kid, I remember using that trick on them to get them closer to me so I could catch them bare handed: tie a stone to the end of a string, pull on the string and lizards will come after the stone, thinking it's a moving insect... so never underestimate the power of a stone 🤣

@bjellison9053 жыл бұрын
Same here but not just catfishing but as you said bug enough bait to cover the stick. Also honey locust thorn, crabapple thorn and for tiny fish multi flora rose. The trick on the small on is to not break the thorn but shave the stick und er the thorn so it keeps the bark and the fibrous layer below. Carve the ends into points so with the ends and thorn you have 3 points to snag
