I’ve just rewatched this video and spotted a crucial error I hadn’t spotted before! When I was talking about Burdock I stated the leaves of Hemlock are similar - they are not! What I meant was Foxglove - I was obviously having a senior moment! I apologise for any confusion!!
@messybung6 жыл бұрын
Thank you for clearing that up! I stopped the video and checked the comments to see if you corrected that. I assumed you mean to say something else.

@@messybung Hemlock looks like the tops of carrots, so no mistaking that. Without the flowers foxglove leaves do look similar to what you had there.
@messybung5 жыл бұрын
@@utahjohnnymontana3373 foxglove and hemlock are both poisonous, too

Albert Jones - Cheers Alb, there is so much out there - so much to learn and discover! I find it fascinating that a lot of common weeds were once actually cultivated herbs and vegetables eaten as part of our staple diet, many being brought into the uk by settlers like the Romans. Now they are considered as weeds. Oh well..... more for the likes of us!!! Atb, Simon.

I don't know about in the UK but no Hemlock in the US looks anything like burdock.
@trekkingturtle41574 жыл бұрын
Yumm, weeds! LOL A subject that you really need to be careful with. Too many plants that resemble each other with very different results. I don't even mess with mushrooms. As you noted on the one plant, when in doubt, pass.

Brilliant film Simon and I thought the hazel panhandle amazing! The stew looked awesome and I believe I almost tasted it as you described it so well. Isn’t Maggie just brilliant the way she sits and watches. How about making a Maggie only film? 🏕

+LiveSimplyFilms Mountain Mike - It did taste pretty good - I’d probably not bother with the thistle - thistle tastes nice, but it’s like chewing rope! Maggie is pretty patient really - but she knows she’ll get a treat at the end! My good wife says the same - I should do a ’Maggie, a hound in the woods’ video with my wife doing the voice over and just barking for my voice! I quite like the idea!

Your production/editing surpasses most of the other bushcrafty channels (including MCQ, who I follow religiously!). you don't dwell to long on your shots away from scene which is a bug-bear for me with Zed and MCQ! Do you do any hunting? It'd be good to see something like this where you forage the whole meal including the meat. keep up the good work!
@simonablokeinthewoods7 жыл бұрын
magicdrshoon - Thank you very much, that is very kind!! I don't shoot, as I don't have a gun licence, but do take a homemade catapult out with me, I'd like to catch my own meat to cook and have permission to take pigeons and rabbits from a woodland I use - just need to improve my aim!!! If I ever do I'll certainly cook something up and make a video. Atb, Simon.

@@simonablokeinthewoods LOL his "handle" is magicdrshoon, and your reply sounded like you'd been sampling magic mushrooms! His comment about your "shoot" was in reference to the "video shoot" and editing techniques (perhaps not a term you use in the UK?) as in videography or photography. Your response dealt with firearms and slingshots. After reading your response I'm sure he wandered off in search of a beer or something stronger. Must have been one of "those" days. LOL

Never heard of eating goose grass before. What will you come up with next ;o) Evidently, I'm living in a huge pantry. On our own little piece of Paradise, we have about 1,5 hectares with xmas trees (spruce) that we refuse to spray with herbicides/pesticides, so stinging nettles, thistles and goose grass abound, together with a multitude of other things, including loads of different mushrooms that I have yet to look into. We also have some pesky deer, so I'm considering reinforcing the fence around my fruit trees, using hawthorn, blackthorn, and some very nasty (but rich in berries) brambles. I'm sure my bees will love that. Plus, I've always wanted to make my own shillelagh ;o)
@simonablokeinthewoods7 жыл бұрын
P.H. Rankin Hansen - Hahaha! I have to admit, goosegrass on its own isn’t that nice in my opinion! It’s fibrous, but boiled to hell and back it becomes more palatable! You can also make a sort of smoothie by blending it - it looks a bit like swamp water, but I’m sure it’s really good for you! Lol! I have to confess I had to google what a shillelagh is, I’d not heard of one - looks brutal!! You might be able to see those deer off with one though! Atb, Simon.
