There is a difference between survival and living in wild places. The line can be blurred any you can find yourself thrown back into a survival situation at any time. But at some point, when your most basic needs are met, "survival" becomes simply living. Building a comfortable bushcraft survival shelter with fireplace in the woods is one huge step towards sustainable wilderness living. This video covers the complete build of the tarp and log cabin I built on Season 8 of ALONE. I use only my axe, katanaboy saw, and Leatherman P4 for this bushcraft shelter build.

Clay, my son is now 32 years old and he still reminds me of the times when I used to take him hunting, camping, fishing and hiking and of all the things we used to do together when he was young. Now he’s teaching his son my grandson who is 11 years old to live off the land. You’re doing a great job with those boys. Keep up the good work. They will be eternally grateful for the lessons and the character that you are helping them to build.

Outstanding to see you handing down the skillset and steps it took to survive up to 75+ and beyond days not knowing how long you could spend in moher nature's yard before the possibility of rescue. I live in the Seirra Nevada Mountains of Northern Caliornia which also gives me the opportunity to teach my boy what it takes incase he were to ever find himself lost, stuck, stranded. I wanted to message you and congratulate you on the win in Season 8. But more importantly, to send my respects as a fellow woodsman, father and husband. Thank you for the shows and videos you put out regarding Primitive Tool making and survival skills. Keep em coming sir.

I am 27 with a 2 year old little guy, and baby girl due this summer. There are many troubling things that have come with the times we are in, but the ability to be inspired by strangers has been a blessing I didn’t see coming. Clay, the way you interact with your boys is a pure light in this world, and although my skill set has evolved a bit more around nuts and bolts than branches and mud, I hope I can be as impactful to my children. Thank you for the sharing this, and for the inspiration.

I’m so proud of you cause I know I wouldn’t be able to survive i solute and take my hat off to u cause your the definition of a real father figure I wish I could teach my kids something this valuable in life that really means something in life ……yes going to work to provide for your family is what a father is supposed to do but being able to teach your children something like this is amazing. Valuable knowledge to pass down generations to generations cause they really don’t teach things like this in school and if so it’s the bare minimum.

If you burn the tips of the beams where they'll contact the floor with care, the wood will last much longer against humidity. You can even put them down into a rock, earth & stones foundation, for even more stability and durability. PS: love your simple and effective approach. And that woodworking with saw and axe was amazing.

I love all the content clay show us on his channel. its always interesting and well explained. I like to have his video on wile I do some work on my bow, preparing for hunting. But for some reason, probably the birth of my daughter 2 weeks ago, I just realized something listening to this video. In a video showing us how he built his survival shelter, he's also showing us good parenting all along. It literally struck me. I told myself, thats the kind of dad I want to be. Let her try and learn technic, how to use tool, have good manner, ask for her opinion, and so on. Thanks for this good lesson, greeting from Quebec, Ca.

Excellent shelter - I really love how your boys got to help - that is a lesson they will never forget. Getting ready to sit down and watch the new episode - god bless and take care.

I'm a father of three, all toddlers, but I loved this episode. Never thought, by any means, that you were a bad or non loving dad, but it shows through in this episode how much that time away from the boys showed YOU how much you love them.
