I have been a woodworker most of my life . I enjoy watching you work leather, I am inspired to try it. I made a walnut handle for a K-bar knife I got when I was a boy and a leather sheath to carry it in over 50 years ago that I still have but that’s the last time I did any leather work. I think I will try again

Awsome Video Tom, you are really doing well . I had a lot of questions to ask and i know that you wouldn't mind to answer. •Where did you get the leather for making different things ? • How you got knowledge of leather making things • what are you doing nowadays, because everything is shut due to lockdown ? • where in Denmark you live ? • how you got a lot interest in viking age ?

Hi my friend 👍🏻😁 appreciate your feedback and questions and here’s my answers 😉💪🏻 I buy my leather here in Denmark at a store called Laederiet. I’ve been working with leather most of my life and just have a lot experience to use in my projects. I’m working on a school and we don’t have lock down here in Denmark. I live in the northern part of Denmark near a city called Aalborg. And because the Viking culture is a part of my heritage I find it natural to have an interest in that. Hope I answered all your questions … Atb to you 🔥🏕 Tom

Tom- once again, you have made some beautiful things. I am interested to know how you have studied so many Viking related items. Your research must be extensive on this kind of thing. I always appreciate your attention to details, and creativity. And that you seem to have a place for everything you need, when you need it. Please keep posting the little “wink” when you brew your coffee. I get such a charge out of it, like you are doing it just because I noticed it. It is very special. I will never forget this video. My Viking roots go back to Frisia, but all of Scandinavia showed up in the DNA as well...including a few Finland dots. The first "fort" on top of the mine at the Valkenberg castle was a Viking outpost the remains of still existing under the castle. My understanding is that my ancestors traded the flint all through the Viking territories. This conjures so many images for me of brave men and women hiking and paddling through those lands, living every day much like your solo ventures. If I can procure some of the flint my ancestors sustained themselves with I'd love to send you some. If I acquire some I'll let you know. Thank you!

That’s very kind of you Diane 🤗and I’ll be grateful for that 👍🏻 It’s amazing how much they can tell from your DNA test and can easily understand how proud you are and I’m grateful that you are sharing this with me. The castle of Valkenberg (burg?) is located in Belgium ? Looks very interesting and maybe I’ll go there some day and feel the history from there. Atb to you my friend 🏕🔥Tom

@@cimbrerbushcraft-vikingheritag Oh dear, yes! Burg! My grandmother on my father's side is the direct descendent from the castle family, Julia Van Valkenburg. (Sorry Grandma!) But long before the Netherland name changes...the Viking culture inhabited that entire region of what Vikings called Frisia. I always felt their strength in my heart. Have a beautiful day.

"going back to basics" is a deep thought experiment. It an go well beyond having the big 3, or 5, items, cutting tool, container, combustion, tarp/cover, and a blanket. You need to think about daily life. conveniences worth having. It is a study, and look into anthropology, and as diverse, and as complex as all the people threw time. There are some questions that you can ask about all native, or historical, or current people. where did they get there salt, what did they use for cordage, or cover, or for knifes, tools, how do they/did they build there shelter. How did they carry there stuff. The history of cork, and the history of corks gets a bit confusing. There are several "cork" tree's around the world, that have been used to make floats, stoppers, shoes, pads, roofs for thousands of years. The "cork" did not come around until the french stopped using rags to seal there wine bottles in the mid to late 1700's...two different things...cork, and corks. Not all corks are cork, and not all cork is corks. The chunk of cork a viking would have had would not be a cork. It would have been made to be a float, and be able to function as a small stopper, or to throw at there buddy when it is time to get up, etc.

You are among the top " go to" people that I would refer to for gear of Viking origins.. If it is made of authentic materials n true methodology was used to construct said gear... Who alive today can or should say different??? Same with 1st nation( Native American) crafts/ gear! Who out there " really" knows what it all truely looked like... Work as close to primitive as one can in an honorable fashion.. N.. Call it a day! Thanks for sharing! GWW... Ooouuuttt!!!

I’m not going to have my belt kit on when I’m having my rucksack on … 👍🏻😉 but as long as I don’t have anything on the back of my belt … it’s not a problem. What I find very interesting about the Vikings is their bush craft techniques and tools are still idolized today. If you watch other bush craft channels you will notice that their modernized kits are almost the same part for part. Be it they are modern takes on a Viking style or simply their own style that happens to be the same as a viking tool. Either way in my opinion they are like the ultimate bush craft culture. Here in the US you will find what we call cowboy fire starting kits. A take on what the cowboys used in the wild west. Its exactly like what you used in this video. The only difference is the tinder materials. Techniques and ideas that exist here in the US that have roots back to those times. Skol

my last birthday! I think the long belt had silver studs (or gold) and they'd cut off the length of a silver stud or two as they journeyed...& that is how long they'd know when to return with a full donkey or gamble on if they were still poor.

Hi, very nice leather job . I think more people should do or a at least try to make daily gear by themselves from natural materials of course it dos't has to be viking style but we use every day things and stuff made of plastic which we can easily replace by natural materials and not everything has to be bought in the shop. I try to replace more and more things by natural materials like, wood , leather, cotton , etc. in my home . .And even if we can not replace everything a reduction of let say 50 percent would be great for the nature and our children's future. So long till next time .

Tom, I think your your knife is beautiful but in my sense not very practical and I would never buy one that looks like that. Reason is that you need a curves blade for skinning animals or carving as needed. This one looks more for battle or slicing bread or meat, and would be great to slice fish. The leather case is beautiful and really makes your knife look grand. Might be great if a bear came after you and you had no fire arms.
