Thank you for the presentation. I have a Collins Legitimus from my Great-grandfathers farm (5-1/2" cutting edge) and it has been through rough times and is still a great axe. It is time for me to try to salvage the handle and your tips have given me ideas. Great work!

The sub 25 degree does well in hardwoods too. Softwood can often be harder than some hardwoods as you probably already know. That quantum leap as you put happened for me when I went sub 20 degrees but some steel can’t handle it unfortunately. The spanish steel is a whole different ball game. Acts much like I would imagine a well heat treated vintage steel would. Looking forward to the next round! Keep it coming :) If your results align with the few of us that use shoulderless sub 20 degree axes maybe some of the old fogies will finally listen. lol. smh.
