I have searched the internet for a "SAW" axe (Swedish Axe Works?) and could not find anything. Then I watch your video and there is the same axe that I inherited from my father. I had to repair the head and put a new handle on mine plus sharpen it. Nice to see this.

Your videos have been very helpful with understanding how to sharpen an axe by hand. Over the years, I've gathered old files from thrift stores and had a Lansky, but now have the Artic Fox and American Mutt stones. Will next buy a scythe canoe stone direct from Baronyx. What a difference! Applying this to a recently aquired vintage Belknap with bevels on maybe the original handle, and a Plumb 3-2 head. Keep going dude and thanks!

Really useful video, so well explained, thank you. Just did a larger SAW by hand for the 1st time - now I know where I can improve and do a better job next time! I have a Husqvarna hatchet with the same awful 45 deg angle that will get fixed up this weekend with your technique! Thank you :)

I have the same bufffer. Love it because it’s so quite. I turned mine backwards though, that way you can work on the top of it and the wheel is spinning the other way, so if the edge catches it will throw the axe or knife away from you and not towards you. What kind of buffing wheel do you have?

I’d typically burn through a Nicholson file in a few weeks. I’ve gone to Pferd files and all of them still cut a year later as they did on day one. I’m using for metal working as well as sharpening garden tools, axes, etc.

Pferd files look very very fancy! I bet they work great.

Bushcraft Sisyphus Hi. Yeah Pferd makes a decent file. I’m going to order the one that you use as well. A man can’t have too many clamps or too many files!

@@farmerbob4554 just bought some new files to fix up an old, very hard HB. A Hart flat single cut, and a massive Pferd 300mm 3rd cut. Both work very well. The Pferd is a monster, great for pivot-style draw filing

I barely every use my bastard cuts. I do almost everything with a smooth cut file. In the UK vallorbe files are pretty good quality and very affordable. Having said that I would like to acquire some high end files purely for the joy of using them

I'll bet this is how Gimli, son of Gloin did it. Except he had no polishing wheel. 😉 Good looking edge! I like to do a few light passes with the Spyderco Sharpmaker ceramic gray and then white sticks as the final step.

#DeadSexy I’ve never been able to get the Lansky Puck to cut. I think the Hults Bruk is the best puck on the market. It’s large, soft and cuts fast, keeps your fingers away from the edge, and comes with a case-I’m a sucker for tools that come with a good case. You clearly know what you’re doing. I just started a channel during the plague downtime for something to do. Pop on over if you get a chance.

HB puck is really cool but the fine side is super soft so don't try my trick with that one lol
@KevinsDisobedience

I prefer them soft. They cut faster. It does wear the stone quickly though. I’ll have to get an Artic Fox. Do you guys sell them?

Please save you audience some accidents, the tang should always be covered with a handle. To many times the tang got stuck in a wrist when people filed without.
