I read this in my 20s and now I'm doing it again in my 40s. Getting back to the old me.

*Join the illacertus library* at illacertus.gumroad.com/l/illacertus/EarlyBird30 Bushido - The Soul of Japan by Inazo Nitobé, published in 1900, is a classic exploration of Bushido, the moral and ethical code that guided Japan's samurai warriors. Nitobé outlines seven key virtues of Bushido: rectitude, courage, benevolence, respect, honesty, honor, and loyalty. These principles served as the foundation for the samurai way of life during Japan's feudal era. The book also provides historical context, tracing the origins and evolution of Bushido, and offers a comparative analysis with Western chivalry, highlighting the universal nature of noble values and principles. Nitobé's work had a significant impact on Western understanding of Japanese culture in the early 20th century, contributing to the fascination with Japan in the West during that period. 0:00:00 BUSHIDO The Soul of Japan 00:05:58 Bushido as an Ethical System 00:14:47 Sources of Bushido 00:26:15 Rectitude or Justice 00:31:43 Courage, the Spirit of Daring and Bearing 00:40:01 Benevolence, the Feeling of Distress 00:53:34 Politeness 01:04:45 Veracity or Truthfulness 01:15:07 Honor 01:24:39 The Duty of Loyalty 01:36:29 Education and Training of a Samurai 01:45:04 Self-Control 01:53:05 The Institutions of Suicide and Redress 02:15:05 The Sword, the Soul of the Samurai 02:21:42 The Training and Position of Woman 02:41:36 The Influence of Bushido 02:50:49 Is Bushido Still Alive? 03:04:36 The Future of Bushido
