Bushmills Distillery; The Oldest Irish Whiskey in Ireland - Whiskey & Bushmills from 1608

Bushmills whiskey distillery in Northern Ireland is the proud home of some of the worlds most famous whiskeys. Visitors can sample whiskey, do a distillery tour, purchase gifts such as whiskey glasses, and of course whiskey! :-)
Bushmills town or village is a small one that is located in county Antrim and one of the most visited places which people hit this small town for is the old Bushmills distillery which is the one serving the oldest Irish whiskey to be found out there ( • Bushmills Town - The G... ). Bushmills distillery is a place on its own, it serves as a place for people to visit and see how the whiskey is being distilled and even take gifts and souvenirs for themselves while leaving, and it also serves as a place that people could go and taste the whiskey and the different creations that it tends to serve.
It is not just the oldest whiskey distillery in Northern Ireland and Ireland, but it also happens to be the oldest whiskey distillery in the whole world. The history of this distillery started back then when King James I granted the landowner and governor of county Antrim the license to distill in 1608 and that was exactly when the journey of this distillery started.
This journey actually passed by several stops and the official recognition of this distillery was in 1784 when Hugh Anderson registered the Old Bushmills Distillery and the Pot Still became its official registered trade mark, which is still the same until today.
Moving forward with the tax that was added to the malt and with the fire that destroyed the old Bushmills distillery, it still managed to collect its ashes and bring itself back up again. With the hard effort put into this distillery, the place actually won different prizes throughout the years, especially between 1880 and the early 1900's which were even referred to as the golden years.
The success that Bushmills Distillery managed to make urges all the people who tend to visit Bushmills to go and check this place because regardless the wars it passed by and all the downs which might have been part of its story, it always managed to bring itself back up again - and that is one of the things that business owners and those who believe in their dreams should do :-)
There are some interesting stops that Bushmills Distillery managed to win at, such as appearing on the silver screen in the classic movie "The Verdict" back in 1982. Also, in 2008 when the distillery was celebrating its 400 years, the Bank of Ireland placed the Old Bushmills Distillery on its new banknotes. From that time, there were different things that helped in writing the history of old Bushmills distillery, such as those famous figures from the film, music, and design world who helped in spreading the word about the place, as well as the rewards it received and the first live music festival that took place in it.
While we were touring the place and getting to know more about the history of old Bushmills, we fell in love with the whole place and knowing more about the ups and downs and the success points which this placed passed by. Bushmills Distillery tour will take you through the whole place, will give you the permission to try its whiskey - the most famous is the Bushmills Black Bush, the Bushmills original, and Bushmills single malt - but you could get yourself whatever you might feel like you need (just make sure that you are above the age allowed for drinking :-)).
There are even tours booked for people to come and enjoy walking and exploring the place - which is mainly for those groups who are more than 15 persons. At the end of this Bushmills Distillery tour, you will reach the Bushmills Distillery shop where you will get the chance to bring back home some of the glasses, mugs, key chains, and lots of other souvenirs which are breathtaking just to watch them all even if you are not going to get any of them at the end; we truly loved the shop as much as we loved the place as a whole.
For those who will be visiting the place, there are actually different other places located in Bushmills town or around that stand on the list of places that one should visit while being in Northern Ireland, such as the Giant's Causeway ( • Giant's Causeway | Thi... ), Dunluce Castle ( • DUNLUCE CASTLE; Mediev... ), and even checking the famous Carrick-a-Rede Rope Bridge which is considered the oldest out there and which is also an experience to go and check in this area.
Even if stopping by Bushmills village will be quick as part of your Causeway Coastal Route tour, you should always make a plan to visit the Old Bushmills Distillery which happens to be from the oldest places that form the history of the whole town.

Kilbeggan is the oldest distillery and has the oldest brand since 1757 1608 is just the date of an paper that shows they distilled in Bushmills but no evidence that any distillery or brand from that time still exists.

Kilbeggan was founded in 1757. Bushmill's was founded in 1608. That makes it the oldest licensed distillery in the world. You understand how dates work aye lad?

@@David-lu4gq The current distillery was built no earlier than 1784. That 1608 date is a very tenuous claim, based on an obscure license to distill in the area. Kilbeggan is by far the oldest whiskey distillery in the world.

@@adammartin7007 It seems we will be having to agree to disagree lad, but it just doesn't stand (in my opinion anyway) that the license granted to Sir Thomas Philips in 1608 isn't linked to the Bushmill's distillery we have today. Let's be honest, how many early 18th century buildings do we still have up along the North Coast, or anywhere on the island for that matter?
