In this video I do a long term review of the Bushwakka True Blue 270 degree awning that I have fitted to my Toyota Landcruiser and show you the Bushwakka walls while I'm out camping. I show you some of the modifications that I have made to the Bushwakka and how it compares to the Alu-Cab Ez-Awn 270 that I had previously.

After days of reasearch of different 270 awnings and countless videos I found this and am so glad I did, I’ve decided this is the one to get. Thanks so much for the detail you put into all the reviews and the honest comparisons. Happy camping

100% correct regarding the flex of that hinge... if you get a bracket on the hinge plate it will stop/reduce that flex. 🤙🏻 Thanks mate...

Ah yes the innocence of an unsponsored youtuber giving an honest no bs review. What ronny dahls channel used to be like before he sold his soul lol. One of the best reviews ive seen, your mods were fantastic too. Great vidya.

Looking at buying one of these in the future and came across your videos of them, they have been really helpful and this one has all but convinced me that this awning is worth forking out for. Interested to see how it holds up over time and in bad weather though.

I’ve had this one in pretty decent rain and it held up to a massive Willy Willy at the lake one day that wrecked a brand new gazebo that was setup next to us. Thankfully I had it pegged down with screw in pegs into the pole feet at the time but the wind that time was making the car suspension lift it was that crazy. Even when using the Alu-cab I still pegged down with screw in pegs into the feet of the poles if it was anything other than a quick stop, I just don’t trust the wind over here in WA - it’s just too un predictable.

We've just installed the U-Beaut onto our Y62 and it's an awesome bit of kit, bloody massive! I would think that the walls are made from a thinner ripstop canvas to reduce weight and cost. You really don't need a heavy canvas for your walls anyway. Great review and I like the leg mod👍🏻

Thank you and yes having lighter walls for weight reduction makes sense.

Hi How have you found setting up and packing the U beaut. That's exactly what I'm looking to get. Did you buy 2 extra legs for it. How's the coverage? Us there lots of space at rear and side.of car? I understand that they extend out 2.3m. How have you found it in Windy conditions? Did you add extra brackets to secure it? I agree about the walls not needing to be canvas. I also.lie how you can angle them out and that they don't have to be attached to the legs. Thanks Mick

@@michaelnugara1 I can easily setup & pack it up on my own, even at a stretch on our Y62, short arse. We will be getting 2x extra legs, really need them for the walls, even though we haven't used the walls yet. There's heaps of space under it both side and rear. Only have 2x brackets on the Frontrunner platform, they’re solid enough but am thinking bout adding one more and also a support plate for the overhang at the front as there can be some twisting during setup/pack up, I'm sure a piece of 3mm would stop this.

Curious if the new ENDO frame version of their awnings will sort your pivoting issue...

Top vid mate. Just wondering, can you feel the reflective heat under the awning? I got a cheaper awning and when the suns out the heat is discomforting. I know the bush company has a dual layer canopy and probs would reflect more but I do like the trueblue and would get one over bush companies if the heat emmitted was bearable.
@JebbreysJibberish
@JebbreysJibberish 3 жыл бұрын
The Alu-cab had a reflective coating but was also very thin which is why it almost immediately got some wholes in it. The bushwakka is properly thick canvas type material so I guess the disadvantage is weight being heavier but the upside it is stronger and does stop a decent amount of heat . I’m not sure how I would compare to the bush company though.

Hey Jebbrey, did you end up sorting out that bracket at the pivot point? Still got this awing and where in WA did you source from? I'm in Perth so keen to see if I can get local.

I ordered direct and had it delivered. I’ve never ended up sorting the bracket. I’ve had a few other exciting projects on the go and that got out in the temporary fix basket 🤪

Great video, you mentioned the walls are $150 each but they $900 for the true blue kit 4 walls including door on bushwakka site or are these walls are for the extreme 270 as they’re $600 for the kit.

Interesting, I didn’t get a door with mine and only have two walls with no windows. Perhaps contact Bushwakka and see what options they have. I’ve had mine a while and they had only just come out then so it’s always possible their prices have changed in the meantime. But Johnny at Bushwakka is very good to deal with even on Facebook messenger from their page.

I just got my bushwakka extremem today, I put it on the car but I used the rhino rack batwing brackets to mount it to the platform rack, I find it very flimsy and way to much sag at that hinge point with those brackets st think il modify the brackets and also the plate that the hinges/arms r fixed to as that seems to also be a weak spot...
@JebbreysJibberish
@JebbreysJibberish 3 жыл бұрын
Yes I think drilling holes in the back corner like the ALU-CAB brackets are the way to go as that hinge point is where all the stress is at.

I nearly made that mistake of buying the rhino batwing brackets but opted the heavy duty bushwakka ones instead they’ve better support worth every cent

Just purchased 2 of these Can you install this straight on to 2 Thule roof rack (cross bars)?
@JebbreysJibberish
@JebbreysJibberish 3 жыл бұрын
Not sure, if you only had two cross bars it would not be very secure anyway as there are 3 brackets. I have seen an alu-cab mounted to crossbars but they’re made up a super strong support for it front and rear out of 5mm ally to support the ends.

wouldn't it be gr8 if there was a skirt where waning bracket meets the car roof .. like on my mycube 270 awning on the roof top tent ..

Yeah I actually thought of sticking some Velcro on to the roof rack and awning bar and the cutting up and old tarp to make one.

Hey mate, great video A year since the upload maybe even more was just wondering how it’s still going is it holding up to the test ??
@JebbreysJibberish
@JebbreysJibberish 2 жыл бұрын
Still got it and use it all the time. It still sags when coming out unfolding but I just support it at those times. I should have re engineered the bracket at the back but just never did. Those heavy duty brackets started rusting so I had to take them off clean them up and repaint them myself to stop them staining the paint on the roof but a minor thing I guess. Canvas is great, walls are great, coverage is great. I almost always put the legs down and peg them in just because I live in WA and the wind here is unpredictable and gusty out of the blue so it just makes me feel better. The other one to look at though would be the bush company. Seen one up close and very impressive!

I prefer zipped on walls and that they aren't attached to the poles and angle out. Heaps more livable space Did you get 2 X additional poles for when you connect the walls for more stability. Cheers again
@JebbreysJibberish
@JebbreysJibberish 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah the walls are zipped to the awning but yeah only Velcro’d to each other. But the angle does give you a heap more undercover space. I have 4 poles all Together. They clip up into the awning and stow away with it. Yeah that way when you peg the walls down it doesn’t strain the brackets and arms. But I like popping the pegs down and screwing in some pegs into tue feet just for peace of mind. Especially if on the lake or going to sleep. The wind in WA had a habit of coming out nowhere and can destroy stuff pretty quickly.

No not with this one. I had heaps of issues with the Alu-cab because it had Velcro to attach the walls to the awning itself and the wind would just rip the walls off.
