Hello Aneel. Thank you for your comment. I'm not quite sure what your question is. You should know what crop and bleed marks are and why these process controls are used in pre press to ensure the proper printing and finishing of the document. If you are wondering why some of these control marks are not on the paper in the video, it is because they are not needed. If you want to "print according to my setup" then you are thinking in reverse. You need to prepare your document properly for printing (crop marks for sure, and bleed marks if needed) not cutting. Two very separate processes with their own unique process controls that work together to ensure accurate printing and cutting. The technique used to cut the cards is not mine, it is a very basic production process control protocol utilized to ensure accuracy in cutting. If the cards had bleed, the imposition would reflect that (you would physically see the marks printed on the paper), and a slightly different cutting protocol would be used to accommodate cutting them out. Since there is no bleed, the only marks needed here are the trim (crop) marks which you can see at 1.45 These crop marks, in addition to knowing the document size, is all that is needed for the paper cutter operator to cut out the cards. The first two cuts establish the edges of two sides of the cards, then you simply cut by the numbers. If the cards had a bleed you would see these marks if the document was imposed properly, then it must obviously be cut out as you progress through the cuts, but the cutting of the document in two (as shown in the video) will not apply. The two halves will not be identical so you cannot stack them. Cutting paper is not at all complex. It simply requires the operator to follow standard production process control protocols. I hope this answers your question. If not, please let me know and be a little more specific.

@@haroldhalliday9016 Every company print business cards with crop marks plus bleed which means a setup program for them to be cut is gonna be different. I haven't seen anyone printing business cards the way you do. What if your text is very close to the edge and spot color is present. You need 5mm bleed on each side of the artwork

I have a vocational exam tomorrow, but due to covid we are totally not ready. I need tips on the order in which I should cut business cards, but on an old ass manual paper cutter. Help

You don’t have crop marks on all 4 sides or just the 2 sides??

They are on all 4, but they get trimmed off.

@@uhdigitalmedia 🙏🏽 Some work colleagues don’t get my work cut on time, so i did it myself yesterday after watching this. It’s very effective and different from how they do theirs but i cut a little bit of text close to the edge & i’m very sure it’s not how you’ve shown us, it has to be set on the computer i guess. Apart from that, I’ve cut perfectly and have you to thank. THANK YOU 100%. Plus now, they cut all my work on time

It would be the same size, you just need to use oversized stock to fit the bleeds on the sheet.

This is all well and fine but it's not for when you have bleeds. There are more efficient ways to cut down business cards so that they are perfect cuts every single time.

Thats why he explained at the beginning that this was done digitally (and with no bleeds it wont matter). No 2 sets of prints are in the same place as constant as on offset, whether you have templates or not. Therefore you'd have to set up the printer to where you have the cutter preset before just printing away. Its even more difficult on 2 sided cards that bleed.

Then it has to be put through a PMC high die cutter which would add greatly to the cost of the card, especially if the company does not have the equipment or the high die..., one would have to be made.

You made your card layout without gutters?? This approach is going to be messy once you design cards with edge to edge color bands. As you mentioned yourself a digital press is roller based and doesn't have grippers for accurate registration, gutters are a must!
