A company must care about their consumers and adding value, their employees and adding value and their profit- all three of these legs of the Business triangle must appreciate and work synergistically with the other, or there is no business, no profit, no value and no chance to increase the standard of living, protect the environment and produce more efficiently and cleanly and share those resources with others. The standard of living, health resources and the poverty level across the globe has never been in better shape historically and this is due to capitalism, value added, the leisure and know how to share and continually strive for cleaner and greener production. The markets due this naturally. People know there is only one planet and we need to respect and honor it, those companies who are rogue and take and don’t give value go bankrupt and cease to exist. In the end companies don't actually care about social causes, just the perception that they do. Kind of like all the corporate support of BLM while they still prop up the genocide and camps in China. Corporations calculate the cost of supporting a cause versus the benefit. It's not coming from a place of morality but a place of economics.

"the benifits of diversity are more innovation (innovative thinking)" how? In a country that is predominantly white, where predominantly men are competing for high earning positions, thanks to hypergamy, it's reasonable that most of those positions will be held by white men. Companies don't care about diversity, they care about profit and if appearing to care about diversity is better for profit, then they will pretend to care about diversity. The argument for, forced gender and racial diversity quotas being a way to tap into innovative thinking is not only BS, but racist and sexist. Preferential hiring is not fair, no matter what. Saying that people with different skin colour or gender will think differently is exactly what woke culture is saying does not happen. So much so, that today, we are not even allowed to recognise the difference between genders by using gender pronouns. When you apply for a company that advertises the fact that it employs 50% women and has over 50% women in management but you get passed over for a job by a woman who's linked in profile shows you she is way less qualified than you, should you think, well maybe her news agent job and unrelated course will give the company more innovation than my years experience in the field(sales) and 3rd level RELATED deploma.

I've been trying to define the word "woke" for some time now and I've been confused by the attitude of the American right-wing media toward the expression. They make fun of it, question it, belittle it, yet it ?'s a word that seems to resonate with me and the things that I value.

That's because they're a bunch of grumpy old geezers who know the changing world doesn't have room for them anymore. They're desperate to maintain any degree of relevance and seek to do so by generating their own sense of outrage, even if it's entirely artificial and vapid.

When confronted with damning evidence of their own failings, the right wing has an annoying habit of trying to weaponize that failure against their opponents. They did it with "wokeness", they did it with "fake news", and they did it by crying "election fraud" while overtly passing partisan state laws to rig the election system and pushing audits that compromise election security and give them access to private voter data.

I didn't expect to see environmentalism lumped in with 'woke-ness'. Though for mine, the idea of 'woke' is synonymous with 'respect', so maybe it could work. I like your point about an ever increasing woke culture driven by younger, more savvy consumer/ investors. That eases the stress (a bit) of a neo-liberal appraoch to environmental and social responsibility. But "yeah nah" (as we say in Australia), I won't be holding my breath for the capatalistic stranglehold we're in to do little more than ease some consciences, while we get set to exploit the land in ways never seen before to satisfy the hungry ghost of consumerism. The dream-illusion (fool's paradise) we are living in is that we can, 'have our cake and eat it too', when it comes to meeting the greatest existential crisis of our time. It's a bit tragic :/
