I went to a Bootcamp. I’ve had a good career mashaAllah. However, my undergrad was economics and I went back to go for a M.S. in computer science after due to perceptions, lack of foundational knowledge and competition. A Bootcamp will get you a job, but there is no point in your situation. You’re better off learning how to be a good engineer with building projects, reading books(clean code and clean architecture, objected oriented design patterns by Gang of Four) and having fun at hackathons. A Bootcamp will be a waste of time for you.

In Germany there are different Business/-IT studies. One is business-informatics, that like you said management information systems as a masters degree and business information technology and digital business and management. They qualify you for different carreers. The first one you can do either business carrers related to IT or IT carreers. The next one you can do only business IT carrers lore around information to use for the business and the third is around hardware as a project manager for example the last one digital business is business with a bit of digitalization so data warehouse etc so the its business informatics light. I think you should mention, that all the degrees and rankings are for different carreers when you want to be a banker its F Tier to study HR for example... plus I wanted to let you know the other it related degrees so you can mention them in the tier list, because they are all different, don’t know if digital business is also S tier for example because you can do fewer jobs in IT with it and compete with other IT people.

Sadly its only 1/3 of the major - Programming can be very challenging as you may face many problems that might make your life hard. Here’s the thing with business major, you should be ranking your business school instead of major since most of my friends and family got Masters/MBA degree, unlike me with a healthcare degree. My sister went to public Ivy, flagship state school, Masters in Accounting, recruited by big 4, manager in 3 years, is now director of technology and education in tax department of said big 4, 6 figures, can work from anywhere. My brother’s gf went to Ivy, for MBA, recruited by FAANG, excellent 6 figure and life style. My childhood friend’s wife has bachelors of science in accounting from mediocre state school, works as a book keeper. RN friend, that works with, his brother graduated from same public Ivy with Finance, recruited by firm and is a millionaire by 30. All speculative, but if you weren’t born with silver spoons in your mouth or your daddy isn’t a CEO/CFO of a large company, make sure you attend a competitive school where companies recruit internship and are known to hire graduates. Business school is all about building connections and you won’t get that from University of Phoenix even with an S tier degree. The only useful degree there is accountant because, you can sit for national board and be licensed as CPA. No, being a CFA with a finance degree is NOT the same. Damn, I should quit prescribing meds and go into advising people.

Shane, I think you should incorporate or consider the competitiveness of certain degrees. I know you touched on it with some of the degrees, but I think it would be worth mentioning or maybe making a video about target schools and which degrees are most influenced by the prestigious ranking. For example, Finance.

Would you say WGU is a good option? It’s so affordable but I wonder if the price is worth the lack of networking :/

Yess I want to know as well
@zachmaxx12923 жыл бұрын
I would take a look at their business accreditations. Look for AACSB or ABCSP. If they don't have either accreditation then shop around. I was considering WGU's computer science degree but they lacked the appropriate ABET engineering accreditation so I passed. I'm now considering Arizona state university since they have the accreditation I'm looking for. If WGU doesn't have the appropriate business accreditation, check out ASU.

Actually, accounting graduates make more than finance majors. However, MBAs in finance from a prestige school (eg Harvard and Wharton) will make more than anyone else.

Hey Shane, could you do a breakdown on the usage of a Master's in Public Policy? Such as what careers are viable or what you would recommend for those looking into either policy writing, public or private sector.
@ricky66083 жыл бұрын
Wouldn’t they just hire people with law degrees for that
@theaberration3 жыл бұрын
@@ricky6608 No, because law degrees are geared towards lawyer work (corporate, criminal, international etc), as in they don't make laws, they utilize what already exists. Public Policy is attuned for the creation, alteration, or removal of policies to better the public such as formulating polices for new housing, criminal justice reform, or urban policy etc.

@@theaberration A lot of people at the law school I go to become policy officers for the state government and we learn about writing policy in some subjects

Accounting does not need a top 10 school as Finance. You can work for a CPA 2 years after graduation. Then decide to work in the field you want. That's less prone to choose a wrong career.

@@ShaneHummus Gently reminded one do not need to be an Accounting Master to fulfill the 150-credit requirement of CPA. Those schools offering such a degree is a rip-off. You can go to online or community collage to "complete" the credits.

The thing is admin and regular business degrees are mostly common sense with some accounting mixed in. I’m half way through my BS in business management and it’s literally a waste of money imo. I’m considering not finishing bc the classes are just common sense. I learned what more as a business owner than a college student.

I think business degrees get a lot of stigma because people only think of two degrees, general business and business management. Two degrees that are known for their over saturation and relative ease to get. It also didn't help that until communications came along it was the major of choice for college jocks. In reality however, business degrees encompass everything from management, to marketing, to risk, to finances, and even to technology. It's not a branch to be underestimated!
@greatbryan24843 жыл бұрын
Management is not a general degree. In my university, management is a specialization. It is called business administration & management.
@wolfworks73393 жыл бұрын
@@greatbryan2484 Semantics aside, that IS the infamously over saturated and underpaid branch of business. Whether they call it business administration & management, or business administration like they did at my college, or general business management, or business management and general administration, or whatever each college wants to refer to it as, it all refers to the same thing.
@greatbryan24843 жыл бұрын
@@wolfworks7339 I kind of do agree. However, it depends on the catalog that your university offers.
