Got some context for you all: I went to school with this guy. In middle school, our school ran a toys-4-tots program at Christmas. One where, as a class, would pick a classmate to go to toys-r-us that night, with money raised by our class to buy toys for kids less fortunate. He was picked, because he was popular. As the day ended, I was walking through the hallways when our teacher pulled me aside and said that George did not pick the money up to buy the toys. So I took the money and went with my father that night, and bailed his butt out. Needless to say, the seeds were sown early, that was 30yrs ago.

That’s not context at all. He didn’t steal the money according to your story which would make it relevant. He just didn’t get the money and go get toys, which would’ve required his parents assistance given that you were middle schoolers. Obviously his parents failed him in some way if he went on to do this, so it’s probably their fault that he couldn’t go get the toys. You said he was chosen because he was popular. That does not mean that he had the ability to convince his parents or someone else to help him get the toys, nor does it imply that he has a good memory (middle schoolers aren’t known for being reliable). Kind of a stretch to say this guy was always a piece of shit based on your little story there or that it’s context for what would happen in the future.
