@oedhelsetren5 сағат бұрын
I don't want the tariffs, but you Canadians need to do your research. Most of the crude oil we buy gets sold back to you as gas. As for electricity, that's a joke. The US uses over 4,000 terawatt-hours a year and only 33 terawatt-hours comes from Canada. Canada could disconnect the power to the US right this moment without warning and I don't think the lights would flicker. So much for the promise to lower grocery prices. I'm sure Trump is going to still blame the liberals and Biden for that too. Even though he's causing it.
@JojoLannisterСағат бұрын
How is it Canada or Mexico’s fault that the US has a deficit? That’s like you owning a restaurant, getting mad your neighbor only spends $10 on food, but you drop $1,000 at their grocery store. 😅

Canada actually increased their border enforcement spending. So, we essentially have no reason to suddenly impose tariffs on them. Remember that when you're paying more at the pump
@brianh682125 минут бұрын
That's the thing though, it's not about the border, Trump just use that as an excuse or alibi, the real reason is his obsession with the trade deficit and money grab. There's no real issue with the Canadian borders as it has always been tight.
@jimcab42794 сағат бұрын
I'm confused; everyone here claims that tariffs are bad because they're just a tax that's passed on to the consumer. So, if that's the case then why would Canada retaliate against the US tariffs by taxing their own citizens? And why would they need to retaliate because America is taxing their own citizens in the first place?
@misterfunnybones4 сағат бұрын
Counter tariffs are being applied to USA manufactured products that can easily be replaced with non us product. Canadian whiskey vs Kentucky. French's ketchup vs Heinz. Canadian wine vs California.
@jimcab42794 сағат бұрын
@@misterfunnybones lol, so Canadian tariffs are not a tax a Canadian citizens but American tariffs "are" a tax on American citizens. Sure whatever you say
@jimcab42794 сағат бұрын
@@misterfunnybones Right and we can replace Canadian products with non Canadian products. Works both ways except Canada exports a lot more to the US than the US exports to canada so it will hurt canada a lot more
@endlessorbaggins82234 сағат бұрын
Tarrifs have also the effect of reducing demand. Canada has selected goods that we don't need that much. For example american Whiskey or ornage juice, if we put a tarrif on them, they cost Canadian more which in turn buy less which in the end can hurt american sellers. Bu, yeah retalation with tarrifs also hurt the country imposing them. But, on the other hand we cannot stand there arm crossed. That is why selecting tarrifs on things that hurt more the opponent than yourself can be a strategy.
@misterfunnybones4 сағат бұрын
@@jimcab4279 The USA uses inputs from raw materials from Canada to manufacture goods. Trump's tariffs are not targeted or specific. Do some basic research & read Stephen Miran's paper.

It's not like Mexico is the only country that grows avocados. There will be a disruption, but the supply chain will adjust itself. There's no such thing as 25% price increase in the US. If I'm in the business of selling avocados, I'm not that stupid to increase 25% and let the competitors switch to different suppliers and sell it cheaper

Not 1 mention of products made in the USA are not tariffed 😉
@endlessorbaggins82234 сағат бұрын
Yes, but that change not much that your oranges ar not tarrifed.The core of the topic is how much more you will pay for things not made in USA. Their is alot of things USA do not make, don't have enough or that would take years to implement. Like if you stop lumber import from Canada to compensate for the loss you need to have an industry in place that can produce all you need. Same with petrol. But, there is things you don't have like some minerals. New York state have to rely on Canada energy... otherwise you would have to revert back and construct nuclear power plants.
