As a general rule of thumb, the more chill you make your videos, the older your target audience is.

Completely agreed. It works the other way around too. If you already have an older audience, don't do a hype edit.

Dear viewers I wanted to give you all an update on what's been going on with me lately. As some of you may know, I've been moving around, hopping from one Airbnb to another so that I can travel and exploring new places. The downside of all this is that I'm traveling super light and don't have a lot of my usual equipment with me. In fact, all I have is a tiny light, my trusty camera, and a mic. It's been a bit of a challenge, to say the least! In my previous video and this one, I had to work with what I had, and the sound quality suffered as a result. Unfortunately, Airbnb listings don't tell you how much echo there might be in the apartment, so I've had to deal with some less-than-ideal acoustics. I know some of you have mentioned that the sound quality in my remote videos hasn't been great, and I just want to say that I hear you . I'm always looking for ways to improve and make things better, so if anyone out there has any tips or tricks for remote soundproofing, I'm all ears! The apartment I'm currently in has marble floors and a pretty minimalist vibe, so I can't really hang anything on the walls to help with sound. But hey, where there's a will, there's a way, right? Thanks for sticking with me through all of this and for supporting me on my travels. You all are the best! Until next time,

Hi Ed! All my voice is voiceover, I must record it separately when the house is silent (when my little son and his dad aren't at home, minutes a week). I record on my bed, so the bed lining absorbs ambient noise. I use a lav mic with my phone, I record as video with the OpenCamera app. I'm not helping sorry 😆

The TubeBuddy guys mentioned a audio software tool that removes room echo. The guy who sits on the floor in his apartment and records there mentioned it because his room is rather echoey. He played a on and off version and it made a big difference.

One of the hardest things for me to overcome right now is comparing myself to others and trying to be as good or better. really I should just be focusing on what I enjoy doing and how I enjoy to edit. if I’m always doing what other people want it won’t feel authentic and it won’t last.

I feel like today it's pretty easy to be genius on KZbin or any other social media. You can ramp up your numbers using some tools fairly easy. Likes, views, subs, anything you want, and since I have been using one tool I am having almost no trouble to keep up in loop every day (also a little bit of Famester helps along the way as well). Before it was a hassle to keep up with changes in their algorithms, I don't understand why they have to change it constantly...

I think the most important thing is that you lean into what comes most natural to you. If you are a quieter, possibly introverted person, don't edit like you're a loud extrovert. You'll be unsuccessful and you won't pull in an audience that you relate to. Remember that YOU ARE INTERESTING ENOUGH and embrace that instead of doing what you think you have to, to get views!

At the end of the day it's about being you. It's about being authentic. If the viewers perceive that it's about your passion doing videos how you do them, I would believe that that's the main element to get a certain viewership hooked. And of course different KZbinrs target different types of viewerships.

There are basically 2 kind of KZbinrs, the ones like mrwhosetheboss, who extremely edit their videos to make sure you pay attention, and the ones like you, who actually have useful information to say and add less effects because you trust in your own words to be enough. Nice work as usual.

I completely understand and agree with the fact that editing has an enormous narrative power in itself. It is the key to the success and failure of many films (I am a documentary filmmaker and have my own KZbin channel). However, I notice that the function of editing is transforming for the worse, no longer at the service of a more engaging and profound storytelling but functional to capturing the spectator's superficial attention, almost stealing seconds from him in a furtive manner and not linked to a truly profound interest. . I don't know, it seems to me that it's important to sometimes give up overly instrumental editing and let the content (always well edited) capture the audience that likes it on its own, just my little opinion, what do you think?

You would be surprise how many boring beginner KZbinrs videos there are out there. I think I am just anxious because I want to just start my niche channel so bad. Sometimes just starting and executing is the most important thing as much people overthink it and talk themselves out of it. My main take away from your video was stick to your audience and grow and build from there.

I prefer chill editing since that will increase the quantity and not only does that mean more experimenting but also more of my ideas and opinions out there. Chill editing also makes it easier not to accidentally steal from anybody’s creation. For example, in one of my videos I just used trailers so that way I don’t have to steal hard worked edited personal gameplay from other people.

You should start by looking at your audience demographics. Older audiences (let's say above 35) can't stand hype edits more often than not. I accidentally attracted an older audience with the topics I cover and my lack of editing skills 😜 I've gotten compliments for not using music, no busy editing and just showing and explaining things they are interested in.

Excellent video. I am always confused about how much to edit. I guess you made it clear to me. It's all about what is your target audience? I prefer to be on the chilled team. Thank you Ed that was helpful.

Definitely struggling with this bit and understanding what to do. I’m no editor to be honest and in the very early days so practicing over and over!

This video was so interesting especially the part about the editing style and the video tone matching. That's something I'm still trying to figure out for myself, which kind of editing style matches my videos more. I like to make my videos look pretty but also authentic, I like creative editing but at the same time I'm worried that it might come off over-edited and take away from the authenticity.
