And the forests are full of the sweetest berries. There's no predators, except on the border to Sweden (Bears and wolves and wolverines) and no dangerous insect or snakes. Most of the year, in fact, there's no insects at all here. And I've barely seen 10-50 flies and other bugs this summer. That's one blessing to be living in a country so close to the Arctic. So I return the hospitality and wishes for people to come see my country. I just eat mangosteen other day here in my country Philippines and they're cheap here. 😂 And it's very sweet and I can only eat it one seedling at a time.
@cohandoraАй бұрын
If you get them firsthand at farmers here in Indonesia, you can get them as cheap as 0.3 USD per kilogram, sometimes even lower. The price skyrockets when being exported because they rot very quickly once ripe.
@oxoelfoxoАй бұрын
do they fruit all year round like durian? if so, i'm very envious!
@cohandoraАй бұрын
@@oxoelfoxo They don't. But since Indonesia is so large, different regions/islands have different fruiting seasons. So for the whole country, the fruiting season is longer. Same with Durian, they are seasonal fruits. But, there are certain varieties that fruits all year.

Are you confusing KZbin conformity and parroting with 'demand'? Shows how pathetically dependent pricing is on fads, bad consumerism and greed.

I don't think its a good idea for a farmer to go all in on one crop if that crop has suddenly peaked due to a fashion trend, it will soon die down and the plants take a few years to grow, seems pretty risky to me.
@mozaarsenal1113Ай бұрын
In malaysia easily can get that around rm12 ( around 3 dollars) per kilo. Never imagine it can goes as high as 6dollar per pieces! That's just crazy.

Most of the rural homes in Malaysia have at least 1 tropical fruit tree in their yard. Be it mango, rambutan or mangosteen.

It's true that after watching it, you'll understand why mangosteen is so expensive! From planting to harvesting, it takes a lot of time and effort, not to mention preserving and transporting to maintain the best quality. However, its taste is really worth the price.

During mangosteen season in Malaysia, I can get them from roadside vendors selling for $2.50 per kilogram. So cheap. Local mangosteen tastes sweeter compared to the imported ones which has a stronger sour note. I think it's because they're harvested when they're ripe compared to the imported ones from Vietnam which are harvested before ripe. I think they have to account for logistical issues to make sure the fruits don't go bad after arriving. Probably added in some chemical to make them last longer too.

I wasn’t familiar with this fruit until a few years ago and considering I am not a big fruit eater. I never knew it was easily grown here in our SE Asian country but tbh, it wasn’t really common in our wet markets here in the capital city until just a few recent years, as well as dragonfruit. I guess it got really viral and farmers must have started producing them more because they became common in markets while in down South, a lot of people from the provinces are already eating it. I am very picky with fruits because of the texture lol and I actually liked it. It’s fleshy and sweet and sometimes tangy.

I just came back from the Philippines and they were selling for PHP 80/kg, which is equivalent to USD 1.4/kg. Sweet and juicy!

Mangosteen will usually fruit in or around the durian fruiting season. In the past, due to the abundance of mangosteen and its low price, durian sellers would give bonus of mangosteen (1 kg approximately) for each durian sold.

The taste is like a Logan, Lychee, Mango and the ripest strawberry + blue berry you can ever lay your hands on. It is the epitome of a Berry flavor taste. With the soft texture of ice cream or ripe mango. Once ingested, anything else pales in comparison.

Mangosteens were my white whale in the very early 2000s when I first got into my fruit-hunting hobby. They were very difficult to find back then even in a major city like Chicago, and it took me 3 years to first find one fresh. It really is surreal to see how my childhood obsession has become so popular now. Are they delicious? Yes, they taste like a very high-quality peach with lime and grape undertones. Are they worth $7 per fruit? No, but you can find them for less with some effort. There are other, rarer fruit that have since eclipsed mangosteens as my favorite, including its tangier cousin the achachairu, the Filipino Santol, and the sugar apple. They are also much more easy to cultivate in their own natural environments, and honestly I hope to see them with the same success one day.

When I was little.... And actually till this day... In the backyard of my grandma House we have this a very large of Mangosteen tree that we harvest like every year. And at that time because of that priviledges I don't know that eating mangosteen is not for everyone. I love that mangosteen.. If you see the bottom of it... You will find a flower like pattern. The number of the pattern is the exact number of the fruit inside. Including the size of it. Btw I live in Indonesia... Hehe

In our town in the Philippines if it is seasoned you can buy like less than 1 dollar per kilo. It’s quite common in our place and you can easily plant it in your backyard.

It appeared a little more here in Rio de Janeiro Brazil, it's been planting for a couple years in the country, if you find them they cost about 2,5/ 3 dollars each, one time I find an offer of about half a dolar (5 reais) so I bought a couple, it's really Juicy with a very pleasant taste, it's sweet and pretty neutral, maybe like a lichee is the thing more or less I can compare but the flesh is juicier and softer than a lichee. It's really delicious.
