Thank you so much for posting this! I have a long story with my sweet little boy but I'll keep this comment short. It's just good to see such a familiar situation. No one who hasn't made the commitment and lived the life of a ME dog caregiver understands. Some of the people I'm close to have been trying to talk me into euthanizing lately and it's really painful to get those comments when he isn't suffering. My little guy is so happy-go-lucky and loving.

6 yrs! Ok, THAT'S what I need to hear! My dog has been throwing up for almost a year now. I love in a very rural environment and have a very low income. I've been searching trying to figure out what's going on. I borrowed money to bring him to the vet and was diagnosed with pancreatitis. But he started eating, he is he's ravenous actually, most of the time. But not picking up weight, just losing. He is skin & bones with all the weight that he's lost. He throws up every time he eats about 4 to 8 hours after. He occasionally has a bowel movement. I've been feeding him every type of nutritional supplement from moringa to raw eggs so that somehow he'll get the nutrients he needs to keep alive. But if he needs to go in his Baily chair then not is do-able. I will try making money immediately and thank you for letting me know that it is long-term fixable. God I hope this is what it is. Another vet suggested that it might be an obstruction but I can't afford the X-rays at this time and if it is an obstruction he would require surgery in the vet said that he is so far underway but he probably wouldn't survive the surgery. This whole thing is heartbreaking spirits are still up but when he no longer has a desire to live then I will find a way put him down humanely. But I really want him to be happy and healthy. I wish I could take his pain away. Still not sure what this is actually what it is because his tummy really hurts at night after he eats so I spent hours rubbing it and then seems like it gets. I wonder if it's possible for a dog to have an instruction for almost a year?

Your story will be so helpful to so many people. The way you explain it all from the heart shows how caring you are. Really lovely to watch. I recently made one of these chairs for someone local to me here in England who couldn't find a Bailey chair online. I got in touch and she gave me a rough idea of what was needed. Darcy fits perfectly and now jumps in there at feeding time. I would happily make one for any dog for a fraction of what they cost online. As you say, they cost hundreds of dollars, but save the dogs life. Anyone in need of one just let me know. Once again, l love your video. Thank you

Keeping their chest and head up when sleeping really helps… we use an inflatable collar (half inflated) plus pillows…. Also after eating ( mainly meatballs / puppy milk non lactose) I sit him up and give him a drink of beef stock….then wait 30 seconds for the food to wash down…. Sometimes at night if regurgitating then a couple of meat balls and beef stock/ gravy while sitting upright will clear his throat and straight back to sleep

Thanks for posting this video! My dog was JUST diagnosed with this condition. She’s still in the hospital because it’s due to myasthenia gravis so she can’t walk. Hopefully the meds will help but, even if they do, she will still need help eating so I’ve been doing some research. (Be glad your dog is small. I have to figure this out for an 80 lb pittie!) Anyway, you mentioned that your pup doesn’t want to drink water. I saw a recipe for basically making jello squares out of Knox gelatin, water, and chicken broth. Refrigerated until “solid” and then cut into squares. If your pup likes chicken he might be okay with a few squares at mealtime. Just a suggestion for ya! Good luck!

My 12 year old APBT was just diagnosed with ME, he was losing so much weight due to food not reaching the stomach. He was regurgitating during the day all the food he ate, usually several hours after eating. At night he would cough and sometimes get up to regurgitate again. Now that I know about the bailey chair and how to deal with this affliction I was curious to know if feeding him in the bailey chair and keeping him vertical after the feedings, will this essentially end the regurge episodes?
@cburgz36973 жыл бұрын
Update, it's been over 2 months with my dog in a bailey's chair. He takes 20mg of sildenifil twice a day and we have no regurgitating episodes anymore. He has put weight back on and has gotten used to the routine of eating from his new chair.

I used a baby car seat for my pit for now. I put him in backwards where his paws go over the backrest and I sit behind him to make sure he stays there after I hand feed him. Vet told me 20mins. I have not been doing it after he drinks water. I guess I will have to do that now. He developed degenerative myelopathy four weeks ago, he turns 9 in December, and the vet told me that most likely caused him to then develop megaesophagus because the disease has moved from back to front. He has good days and bad, but I am not giving up on him. Man's best friend. He can barely walk now, I have to carry him around and outside for bathroom breaks. But, he isn't in pain, he is still eating and drinking water (sometimes). I have to mix water with wet food, so he gets some hydration because he only drinks after I lay him out in the sun for a bit.

We lost our dog from this, about 4 weeks ago now. The hardest thing I've ever had to do or see. It was looking good after intital treatment of medications and feeding him upright, like we could have a year left. We only had 3 weeks since diagnosis.

@ClarityEmerald Жыл бұрын
@@Lonbites like once he was diagnosed and we began the treatment, feeding upright and the medication from the vet etc it was really helping and he was doing so much better that the vets believed he might last another year if we kept doing everything right like that. But after a while, it stopped helping and he went downhill again fast. So from diagnosis to crossing the rainbow bridge it was only a span of 3 weeks. Looking good after the first week, real good, and then so suddenly really really bad. We couldn’t have done anything any differently.

Is he on a schedule too? Secured in another area? Just watched your other video where you mentioned the morning saliva issue. Something else I found in my research is placing one of those blow-up collars on him at night to keep his head elevated. Can also be hand-made like a fluffy pillow wrapped around his neck perhaps? Don’t know if that would help or hinder on such a tiny dog but maybe something to consider. (Sorry, I’m sure you’ve done TONS of your own research but I don’t want to presume you’ve seen it all if it could possibly help.)

Yes I understand. Yes we've already modified the Bailey chair several times to train our dog to sit. Over and over and over and over again. No matter what the dog WILL NOT sit...
