My wife took my daughter to Coney Island (Brooklyn NY) to play her guitar and sing. Anyway, she made $140 in two hours. The only downside is that NYC wants you to buy a permit for $45.00/day. Cops walked up to my wife and told her she had to leave. My daughter is only 13 and this rich city feels the need to extract $45 from her earnings. There should be some exceptions for kids on summer vacation, greedy city. Anyway, looks like you are having fun and making $$$$$ good luck!

Hey! Thanks for sharing this. I've never been in New York, but it looks like very expensive. Yeah in some cities there is a fee to pay to busk on the street, but this is the first time that I hear about paying a fee every day! This looks like they try to limit any kind of street art....?

Sadly lot of cities are like that. here in Fabulous Las Vegas they do a regestration system and run a lottery to who get the spots available but that is just in the old part of Las Vegas aka Downtown las Vegas. On the "StriP" they do not have that. They do not charge to busk. but there is a few rules of course and the unwritten code of the busker.

Bet they don't shake down the street vendors selling fentanyl laced crack and heroin for part of their profits or maybe they do behind the scenes and shut down the competition of those who pay.

Congratulations on your success and giving people a view into the world of busking. I'v busked in the rain and in the snow. people will give you more money if you can endure the elements.Best tip I ever received wasn't cash. It was playing for a girl I met at Union station. At the end of the song she proceeded to tell me that she came to Toronto today for a brain scan to see if she had a tumor or not. She said the entire day was filled with anxiety and Dred but for the few minutes I played she was relieved of all her worries. It was in that moment I realised I had been given a great gift that I can share with the world. They say music is the best medicine and on that day it surely was. I wish you the best on all your future busking adventures and thanks again for sharing this video with everyone:) cheers mate *From a fellow busker" JayLayZee

I just went busking for my first time all acoustic no amps. I made 40 dollars in 3 hours!!! It was really fun and met some nice people and heard some cool stories. There this town near me with a really nice downtown area and it was a really good spot. Cut my finger up quite a bit and there was blood all near the soundhole. Not the best weather but I just couldn't wait, it was about 35 degrees. Can't wait to try it in nice weather!!!

I enjoyed this video. I'm a huge fan of building music careers via busking. I first became fascinated with busking by watching a guy supporting his family through busking. He found a store that did not chase him away and he would sit near the front of the store and sing. He said he did this every day, during the day and would make about $150 each day. There is more to his method of course, but it was a low tech approach and it worked for him. Oh, he also would periodically remove the donations from his guitar case because people would not give to some that was 'too successful'.

Enjoy your videos as a fellow busker in England. It’s nice that you are honest, many buskers I feel are misleading dishonest about what they earn. It may stem from a lack of confidence, a need to compensate for perceived shortcomings, to try and belittle other buskers, insecurity, ego, or a desire to project a certain image.

Good sound and pictures. I once used busking as a means of advertising products and services on the street - this was before karaoke but I made up my own backing tracks and played live guitar and vocals and did live advertising jingles (which I wrote), with leaflets plus various popular songs . I had a permit from the performing rights society. This was in 1984. I charged my clients £9.00 an hour plus expenses. People as well as taking my leaflets etc also gave me money and drinks and offered illicit substances. I used a mouth organ holder to hold the mike so I was mobile to give leaflets and interact with the crowd. I had an electric guitar with pedals. I was also willing to dress up in costumes relevant to the product. The most memorable was dressed as Jack Frost advertising Christmas trees for a garden centre. :) I too was not a traditional busker.

Playing the streets is all about the songs and the music you play, 15 yrs. ago was the first time I busked (2 hrs.) I made over $400 in tips, plus the $100 bet I won from co-workers daring me to do it down in Daytona Beach, Fla. Back then out of curiosity I kept up with the popularity #1 was the Allman Bros., # 2 was Lynyrd Skynyrd, # 3 Johnny Cash, #4 Charlie Daniels, guess what ? the rankings are still the same. LOL

It´s so sad how underpaid we are, and just because i´m bilingual i´m still earning a little more than the average person who just speaks one language in here. I´ve been meaning to start busking since 5 years ago, it´s just that i did not have the opportunity for some other reason, and did not have any money to start my journey to prepare at least a little and buy some of my equipment, now after some years and that i started working and i got my equipment with a lot of effort to go ahead and show my talent, now i´m ready, somehow, i feel so nervous because it´ll be so strange seen this in my country, but i´ll do it, it´s a big dream i have, i don´t want to work for anybody but for my and my dreams, please wish me look, and thanks for the video

Only thing about busking is you cant do it 8 hrs a day ... or maybe some do. That would be the real buskers. But for the average person, you would busk for a few hours and then go home or do something else. So if you average $20 euro or $20 AUD where I am, per hour then it isn't big money and you would still need a job so you wouldn't want to leave your job for a life on the road... the road just down the street from your house. Unless it is just for the pleasure of playing music for others which you can do on weekends or after work but as soon as you swap your job for busking then busking becomes your job and it will feel like a job after a while and then you will remember how you didn't have to grind you just went to work and earned a days pay for a days work. Even the best job in the world feels like a job after a while.

Get yourself a portable shelter. Good town councils should make shelters in suitable designated locations for buskers to promote a good vibe community. Or at least have stations where you can go and put a deposit down for a shelter and get your money back when you return the shelter. The only issue is securing it properly that a wind doesn't send it flying into people etc. So if they fix tie down locations where portable shelters can be set up. I think a portable buskers membership association may be an idea to give unity and a voice to buskers and a meeting place for them to meet great and unite to suggest together ideas to citys and towns councils these needs. Buskers do make a shopping enviroment and experience much better. Weather its tricks, Clowns, Musicians poets or comedian's or otherwise. The kids love the live entertainment and it brings life to the otherwise rat race of everybody being in auto pilot and channeled that a busker can instantly snap them out of that auto mode. A global buskers association member can get info on the best busker friendly towns and hostels etc. Places to eat cheaply, places to set up and be able to get their voices heard by an advocate in each city or major town about their ideas to improve the experience for all buskers and shoppers. Maybe there are already online groups and forums that cover these things i don't know but if not there needs to be. Busker association members should also get benefits like accomidation discounts or meal discounts etc by anyone who wishes to support the association and registered members. Another idea is try inside malls or under cover train stations or similar under cover areas. Try to get yourself inside a cafe or pub or beer garden. People are more likely to stay and drink and eat more with live entertainment available.
