Thank you so much for having uploaded the many unpublished Busoni recordings with Horenstein, The vast number of rare Horenstein documents you have made available so far is really amazing. What a discovery!

Horenstein gave many concerts in Buenos Aires in 1946-47, then again in 1950-51 and finally in March/April 1963. Do you remember which concerts you attended?

Are you a relation of Jascha? if so... What a pleasure... I left Buenos Aires in 1948,, the ones I saw were probably during 46-47... My mother was an argentinian violinist who had a grand career, stopped at the age of 40, when she died. She studied with Flesch in Germany, and my father was from the US, and studied with Schnabel in Germany. His name was Leonard Shure............

How interesting, perhaps Horenstein (my cousin) knew your parents. The 1946 concerts (at the Gran Rex) included a whole Beethoven series with Claudio Arrau doing the concertos. That was in June/July. He was again in BA in Jan 1947 for another Beethoven series at the Teatro Colon, and then again between May and July 1947 for a whole series of concerts that included appearances with Artur Rubinstein and Zino Francescatti. I have reviews for some of these. Do you recall any specific concerts?

Amazing....... when Francesacatti played in the Gran Rex, , I was there, because my mother was first violinist in the orchestra...and she introduced me to him...mother was argentinian, studied with Flesch in germany in the 20's.. I used to fixed his bow tie, all the time..The only thing is that I don't remember if it was Horenstein who conducted... it was such a long time ago.... my mother's name was Anita SUjovolsky, who, unfortunately in the middle of a great career in Argentina, passed away at the age of 40 years old..... Ginastera dedicated his first quartet to my mother's QUartetoAmericano, and Jacobo Ficher, a very well known russian composer dedicated his only violin concerto to her.... Also I only heard Arrau for the first time in Argentina when he came, right after the war was over, in 1945 to play the Emperor concerto, at the Luna Park ( like Madison Square Garden) I was at That concert also.. My father was Leonard Shure, who studied with Scnabel in Germany also in the 20's.. He was from US, and met my mother in Germany, they got married there and I was born in Berlin.... when Hitler became chancellor, the three of us ( I was 2) came to the States, since Dad was from here...For what reason unknown to me, she wanted to go back to Argentina, and in 1934, they decided to divorce, so she took me, and we went there, when I lived from age 2 to 16, when I came to the States and lived here since then. about Dad, it's history.... he played with practically every known orchestra in the States, recorded many 78's and LP.s , taught a lot, etc....Arrau and I remained very good friends in the States, till he passed away..............I am sorry that I doht remember if the concerts that he played at the Gran Rex were with Jascha.... again, thank you so much for the message.. and I hope this clarifies things............ pleasure to meet you... let's keep in touch... By the way I am 84 years old, very lucky....I studied violin , first with my mother, in Argentina, and the with Gingold in the States... but , though I played a lot of chamber music with friends, I never became a "professional" violinist.... Two perfectionists were enough. hahahah..

Of course i have heard of your father but never had the pleasure of hearing him perform. What were his dates? If he was in pre-Nazi Berlin it's quite conceivable that he knew Horenstein from that period. If you haven't done so already you might want to contact the Schnabel Music Foundation on Facebook, a page set up and run by the family. I am sure they would like to hear from you and maybe you have some stories about Schnabel from your father. For what it's worth, Schnabel performed at Horenstein's debut concert with the Berlin PO in 1926, and he (JH) described Schnabel as one of the musicians whose performances reached the stratosphere.
