For those who don't know, fufu is basically starch vegetables boiled and pounded into a dough texture. It is usually done with a mortar and pestle and is a labor intensive process. You always eat it with your hands and rip it to dip in other foods like he does here. In most African cultures it belongs to, the dishes are put in the center and it's eaten by a group of people. They rip from the same ball and dip from central dishes.

It's made from starchy tapioca root
@jacksonfitzsimmons4253 Жыл бұрын
Is it possible to shape/cook it further to make a bread-like product or does that not work?
It's depends. It's really depends from family to family recepey. (i'm congolese (rdc)/angolese) My mom has two recepey, one with only semolina and one with semolina mix with starch. She do mostly only with semolina because it's more light in the belly and don't give too much weight. Same about eating with hands, it's depends from family to family, I have only seen very elders use their hands to eat it, most of us use spoon or fork. Having your bare hands mixed with whatever the person sharing the table have done before nah thanks. Also everyone have their own plates, unless they are toddlers, they share with their mom's plate. I'd say, us congolese/angolese people need our own space to eat without fearing what kind of poison or disease could the other one bring in to the table. If someone have to yeet, he has to be by himself. Same for the "group of people" thingy, i don't get what you mean, it's just your regular family dinner time to eat.
