If you want Chichen Itza in a Civ 5 game, you need to rush it right from turn 1. The AI absolutely drools over the thought of getting that wonder.
@Owlr4ider11 күн бұрын
Something you can do with building roads is to work on them until they're 1 tile from completion than move onto the next tile until you reach the other city, than work your way backwards finishing the entire road in 1 turn intervals. It's more micro-management but it saves you on road upkeep costs, which can make a difference early on when you're building your first roads. Later on this becomes a bit redundant but if gold is still an issue than it's still a worthwhile thing to do, especially if you can get 2 workers to work on the same road than split off to their respective cities to improve whatever tiles need to be improved there.
@molagbulaАй бұрын
I feel weird about the citizen micro-management being taken out. Do I do it? yeah. DO I do it well? sometimes. Do I enjoy it? kinda? Having it or not isn't a deal breaker for me. I recognize it as being a part of the Civ series, but I'm impartial to it. I will definitely miss workers though.

half way through, I knew all the AI were going to hate you settling so much! and I predict the midgame happiness slump is gonna cause some problems. You definitely approach this from a Civ 6 perspective of a bunch of small cities. Usually in Civ 5, city placement strategy is more conservative on settlement, prioritizing maximum efficacy of tiles within range and border expansion to claim land and resources I love civ 5 though, and I enjoy seeing your perspective on the game

@fredfisher5546Ай бұрын
Filthyrobot and co are outdated, especially in Lekmod. Lots of buffs to non-shine faith and a much larger pool of good pantheons/better understanding of early production means that ruins are the ultimate priority so you want more scouts and no shrine. Also they protect from barbs and help you see land so you know which tree to go (biggest Lekmod skill as all 4 are viable). Finally early workers are gold so you can bash out settlers, never struggle on happiness and get all your cities down asap. Unfortunately you learnt civ v in a different context and a different time - things are more advanced now
@fredfisher5546Ай бұрын
I say this as a previous diehard filthy enthusiast - I can see now a lot of his thinking is entirely predicted on a model where only a select few can found religions, science is king (rather than production), and wonders were over-prioritised. Therefore he is outdated in Lekmod

Why not to start with 2 scouts in Civ 5: If you're going with the Honor tree and want to hunt barbs for gold... archers (usually do 3) then buy a builder when you have the gold. Your long-range "scouts" will eventually be horses, but archers are the best camp clearers. I sometimes did one scout in hopes that it promotes to a fast archer.

I will say it does feel like the AI is way less aggressive in Civ 5, which is interesting and might have to do with the fact that cities can just attack without the need of walls. This allows you to be far more SimCity and focus on Settling and Building Infrastructure. I think the pace of Civ V even on like quicker speeds generally feels slower than Civ 6, improvements not instantly being built is part of that.

Of course a minute or two after typing this Poland declared war, but I still feel like if nothing else the Cities being able to defend themselves buys you more time to build a decent sim empire.

Re: Citizen micromanagement: Honestly, I find the citizen micromanagement way worse in Civ 6 than in Civ 5. In Civ 5, you do end up with this army of workers, but for the most part you're not making a decision with any one of them every turn. Even if you manually control all of them all game long, once you tell one to do something you have some time before you circle back to it to do something else thanks to the labor time. You also don't have to worry as much about any single decision with them because you're only ever out the *worker's* time, not the production time of the city that built it (or that would have to replace it). Any bonuses you unlock to worker production rate or their own work speed are just always on. And while it's not often optimal, you do have the option of automating them once you've gotten your essential tile improvements down, and come the late game it can be nice to be able to point a worker at a uranium or oil deposit on a city that you freshly settled just to grab those resources and trust that the rest of your worker army is going to do a decent enough job on automation to not have to worry about anything else because it's not like a late-game city is going to be a powerhouse anyways. In Civ 6, any worker that's not actively in transit is one that's demanding your attention to do something. You can't automate them, and their charges are precious. So precious that a huge chunk of the game's most important timings involve making sure Liang is established in a city and/or you have a couple specific policy cards unlocked and slotted when a worker finishes production (while *not* having those policy cards taking up space except on turns when workers finish production). Worse, while using their charges well and optimizing how many charges they get feels very important to the point of being stressful, it *also* rarely feels like there's actually a decision to be made. That is, the correct tile improvement for any given tile is almost always obvious once you've mapped out your entire expansion plan for a given city, so it's less about figuring out what to do with any given tile and more about figuring out order of operations (like trying to get two mines down before an industrial zone so that you can hit the +4 adjacency bonus needed for era score, or if you wait on the second mine so you don't overshoot era score too much). You'll never have as many workers in Civ 6 as you would in Civ 5, but by making it so that their actions are proportionally more important it just kinda warps the entire game around them and makes them feel like they're so much fiddlier. 'Course, like you say, they're still not *fun* in earlier Civ games either. I'm so ready for Civ 7 to yeet them entirely.

Why are you stealing 1 builder from 2 different city states? You should only declare war on one city state, steal their builder. If you think you can get away with it, leave the war open, and steal the next builder from THE SAME city state. If you declare war on 2 city states, you lose meeting bonuses from meeting any new city state, and you lose influence faster with city states going forward. Also, you can immediately peace out a CS, so if it was your intention to peace out Mohenjo Daro right away, you should have just declared peace. Your scout took 2 city shots it didn't need to.

@vernonboy1984Ай бұрын
@@PotatoMcWhiskey Haha, gotta step up your game if you want to take on the AI powerhouse that is Zuckerberg. What you should have done is take the builder from Mohenjo Daro, leave the war open (which I have now learned that in lekmod you can't peace out immediately anyway), then hid your scout behind the two forest tiles, popping into the forest every turn or two to see if they build a second worker, then steal that one, too. At least in the vanilla game, you can usually steal at least 2 if you have a good hiding place before the CS decides to build an archer and mess up your system. I don't know what the AI does in lekmod when they put the CS under their protection (Russia had Mohenjo Daro under their protection when you declared war on them, but depending in difficulty in vanilla, attacking a CS and not immediately withdrawing would lead to eventual hostilities with that AI. Just a consideration for the future.
