Got a 30 win streak in Open Ultra League with this absolutely busted team with Registeel, Tapu Fini and Talonflame. Registeel is especically broken and definitely deserves a BIG nerf, it's just way too strong in the Ultra League currently. This video will showcase why. Also get my starting ELO near the end of it. I used to never run Regi cause I just couldn't get value out of him unless he hardwalled something. I've ran him the last couple days and I'm typically a 2500-2700 tier player (scrub), and I've taken my win rate from 62% up to 69%. Its busted, even gives Giratina and Goon a hard time.

Idk if it was you, but earlier I faced somebody with this team and I won, although it was very close. I also use Fini lead but with Trev (L40) and XL best buddy Umbreon in the back. They ended up catching Moonblast on Regi in the Fini mirror after playing the 1 shield which had me very worried, but Umbreon's crazy bulk came in clutch in the end.

Ironically just came across someone using this team while watching this video at the same time. Saw the Tapu Fini lead and had a hunch they might be running this team. So I decided to keep my Swampert lead alive for the possible Talonflame and Registeel in the back and swapped out after hitting it with an EQ. Glad I made that choice, ended up being right and allowed me to win the game. Congrats on the 30 win streak!

Alolan Golem is a hard talonflame counter and causes a lot of grief to Tapu Fini too. Glad to see you can show this team can be beaten. Probably thos opponents were simply not expecting this team comp

Tried out my level 51 Altaria for the first time today with walrein and a drapion lead. After winning 10 of 15 to reach Ace, I just lost 10 in a row mainly due to running into one Registeel after another. Ridiculously busted, definately building a team around Swampert and another counter tomorrow.

Deoxys is like the other fighters no match for Registeel. Just debuf it to the bone with Zap Cannon. I had several coming in as safe swap but you just outdo them. Deoxys doesn't have stab fighting moves and the specials don't do much either. That's why Registeel also laughs at Deoxys.

been running trev walrein core with blaziken in the open ultra league blaziken beats registeel in an even shield scenerio. also beats walrein and trev too I believe.

The Trev matchup is super sketch cause Blaziken gets one shot by SB and Trev can live a Blaze Kick. Walrein eats Blaze Kicks and threatens a one shot with EQ so that's also sketch.

I tried to trade with a friend for PvP IVs and it became a randon lucky trade that was 14/15/15, I just built that for UL and saved my dust! It's still a beast in the right matchups.

Machamp is straight slaughter against regivag. Also excadrill, stunfisk, wiscash. But besides those.. the next best useable Pokémon in ultra is Swampert but it’s like a 350 battle rating lol

Not many use Excadrill because it is a glascannon. And it dies to one Focus Blast already before it can fire of the second Drill Run. For Stunfisk, use a shield to get one EQ blocked and Stunfisk will sweat as well.

It will lose more matchups for sure. 7 less defense and 5 less hp than Tho's Regi. That's enough to barely get knocked out by more EQs than you'd like, especially when you see shadow Swampert.

If you best buddy it then it's probably fine. Without the best buddy, he caps at 2458cp, which is very unfortunate. It's not like Talonflame is a legendary where you're going to take forever to get your XL candy. If you find a better one later you can still reasonably build another one to replace it. Myself, I waited to get a better one simply because I figured I'd run into tons of Fletchlings and would eventually find something awesome. But I'm also more patient. If I had a team in mind and something I really wanted to run, that lucky status might convince me to give it a shot.

you gotta trade for a better one. one def in the 400+ ranking range. near perfect stats won't help with bulk/ break points against scrafty/ talon in the 1s. you'll get farmed pretty hard

I never had access to registeel, got 4 from free remote raid passes and am still trying to best buddy one to up it for UL. Don’t even have a GL one built with how expensive even building other mons for any other leagues. GL is where I shine and even there I have problems. Love/hate relationship with this game.

@@David_Toth I compared both rank 1 (level 50) with a raid one (rank 1185 level 43.5) in the 0 shields the rank one wins only one more match up and only 5 battle rating difference, in the 1s the level 43.5 wins 1 more match up but the rank one has 25 more battle rating, in the 2s a similar battle rating difference as the 1s but the rank 1 wins 2 more match ups, I would consider building the rank 1185 which only needs 76 XL. I have a traded one rank 452 but it needs 256 XL.

I’ve tried a non xl one (14/15/13) and it’s nowhere near as tanky as the xl. It has 10 less points in defense and hp, which makes a big difference I guess. Don’t have anyone to trade with because no one I know plays Pokémon go, so I just powered up the best iv one I had.

Same. I use a 15/14/14 and I feel stupid now. Wasted candy and stardust when I can't trade for a better one. Yeah, don't go for XL pokemon unless you can get a really good one, most of us probably aren't filthy rich in stardust to be making those costly mistakes.

I love Open UL, but yeah 100% agree Registeel is such a busted Pokemon there. I'm FTP, so I have barely any XL, and use the (DB) Gira-Venu core. That oversize tin can beats both those mons despite throwing resisted moves only.

I have a Hundo Registeel, can I use it or does it have to be one with low Attack and high Stamina and Defense? Unfortunately, I only have 56 XL candies.

Hundo registeel would max out at Lv41.5. That means it is almost enough XL candies for powering up for ultra legaue. The Rank 1 does have low atk/high bulk and maxes at Lv50. But having access to hundo means you could also power it up to Lv40 and run it as best buddy. This would give you CP of 2478. This way you can run it in both ultra league and ultra league classic. You can still get a good value in the open ultra league even though it isn't a rank 1. Unless you have a lot of resources to run multiple registeel, I feel some approach like this would give best returns for given stardust investment.

Tapu Fini is a legendary and second charge move costs 100 rare candy. To power it up to Ultra League is also expensive. For that much cost, it better perform well. Same goes for Registeel. Hardly busted that the most expensive pokemon are the best. Talonflame is cheap as chips and still awesome and a great regi counter. Flame charge does him in nicely.

Just get a XL BLastoise there, tankier. Can also take out Scrafti etc. and has Ice Beam for the Giratina. At least Ice Beam comes quicker than Moonblast.

Talonflame is even quite accessible, probably the most accessible XL Pokémon in the game since it’s had 2 com days and spawns in the wild during both seasons with guaranteed XL trades

Definitely a big downgrade but since Registeel is such a dominant force in UL right now (99.5 rating on pvpoke) a level 40 hundo should be runnable and make it a "fine" Pokemon unless you want to push for legend. Checkout on stadiumgaming rank checker how much less defensive/health it actually has (its 13 defense and 9 health which is really a lot). Regi is sadly one of those where having XL is a huge upgrade because of its monstrous defense.
